Hard to see the way our children get treated by the people you'd least expect...,..the stares, ignorance...... Just sad to deal with sometimes!

I just had this conversation with my mother the other day when she was "poking fun" at DS. I told her that all through life he is going to be looked at and treated differently by people who don't know any better. That as his grandmother she SHOULD know better. That of all the people in the world he SHOULD be able to feel accepted for his differences by it should be grandma. After all this time she still doesnt "get it."

Have them walk a mile in your shoes for 24 hours and then they can see what it's like.
The sad thing is sometimes you will get more respect from strangers. Family and friends should know better...make more of an effort to understand.....and realize how hurtful their actions can be.

AGREED!!! I too had this convo recently....its so sad:( People need to be educated more on differences...When you expect certain people in your life to "get it" and they dont its just so upsetting...you r not alone

I deal with it everyday. I actually said something. We were in the Disney store. Chris was running around knocking things off theshelf and laughing. Everyone was staring. Im used to it. As we left the store....i screamed "Hope KEEP STARING...YOU MIGHT CURE HIS AUTISM"! I RAN to the car.
