Cancer-causing workout equipment???

I recently bought some workout equipment from sports authority (dumbbells, workout mat, medicine ball, etc.) everything was made by BodyFit brand. When I got home, I noticed the fine print on every item I purchased had a warning label that read "this product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects and/or other reproductive harm." The warning label didn't say what that chemical is... or how much exposure would occur... It just freaked me out! I am going to return everything.

Does anyone know where to get workout equipment that ISN'T made with cancer-causing materials that cause birth defects and reproductive harm?

TIA!

I have no idea, but I remember seeing the same exact signs posted all around Disneyland when we went there in June. Freaked us out. We then realized we had not seen a single bee the entire time we were there. Have a feeling it was pesticides that they were warning about.

I am guessing acrylamide is probably what is in the item you purchased....I remember reading something a long while back on it and had to look up the spelling....

http://oehha.ca.gov/prop65/acrylamideqa.html

I should add that there is a list of 65 chemicals...so it may be something else...but thats the one I remember....but could be totally off base

There are actually TOnS of bees at DLR but only in certain spots-surrounding autopia, submarines, jungle cruise and big thunder railroad are definitely the hot spots. In fact if you have an allergy to bee stings and are an attractions CM, you can get out of mandatory cross training at autopia.

The signs at Disney are for the utilization of brass and stained glass throughout the parks. Mainly handrails and stained glass windows. When the dept of health comes in they swab the handrails and windows and test it to see how much of it is transferred when someone touches it and publishes the results publicly.

That is CRAZY!!!

How can a company in good consciousness, manufacturer this sh!t? Don't they want repeat customers?

Why not say, let's find a material that isn't cancer causing.

Re: Cancer-causing workout equipment???

I just saw this post.
Please don't panic.

I import and export chemical fertilizers and have to deal with the state of California's department of food and agriculture regulatory agency.
They are extremely strict when it comes to product labeling and possible carcinogens in just about anything.
No other state I deal with has such strict guidelines in place.

Use your exercise equipment in good health !
