Self Control at weddings, etc

I have a ridiculous number of weddings to go to this year (8!!!) and they are all within a couple of months. I am really struggling to lose weight since i pig out pretty much every weekend at all these events (i love cocktail hour LOL!)...i have managed not to gain by watching what i eat mon - fri. Any tips for how to have some self control when going to weddings and other events?? i have none, plus the wine doesn't help eitherChat Icon

Just think to yourself, do you want to wreck what you've worked on so hard all week in just one meal.

This is why my official weigh-in day is Monday. Gives me more motivation to not blow it over the weekend.

Re: Self Control at weddings, etc

I'm like you, I love cocktail hour but I just take a little of each thing I really like (which is almost everything, lol). The weeks leading up to events like weddings, I tend to push my workouts to the max and also really watch what I am eating mon-fri and then I enjoy the event without guilt. I feel like I work out as hard as I do and watch what I eat 90% of the time, that I can allow myself a couple of nights of enjoying the environment, food and drinks included. The next day, I go right back on track and sometimes, it actually helps with my motivation. It took me a long time to realize a couple of nights of eating and drinking weren't going to undo all the hard work I have been putting in for years as long as I go back to my routine.

I always eat a healthy breakfast and lunch before going to wedding, etc. I use that meal as my cheat meal for the week and I do not stress over it. As for wine I generally try to keep it to one or two glasses it is still 300+ calories but I am not going to stop myself from having a good time. Given the choice I will drink something lower in calories usually raspberry vodka and club soda with a splash of grenadine.

Re: Self Control at weddings, etc

My advice is totally immature - but it works for me.

I prefer to drink my calories Chat Icon so I do not sit down @ cocktail hour - Ever.
And I always refuse the passed finger type food -

You can't hold a wine glass AND eat off of a plate at the same time.

So, I don't eat during cocktail hour - but to ME that's no big loss......It's not hard for me to skip the cake b/c once I've had a few I am happy on the dance floor...So I usually just eat dinner and avoid ordering anything terrible....if you told me I can't drink I'd be miserable
