Am i alone?
Hope some of you are feeling the same excitement as I am. Yes, of course, I am sad that the days of laying out and watching movies all day are over, but I am excited to see my kids!
A few of my friends are teachers and yesterday at dinner one even said "At least we have no kids Tues. but Wed. is gonna suck!" what?! The first day is going to suck?
I can't help but wonder why some people went into teaching

I'm excited! I have the same kids as last year, and I missed them! Excited to get my room perfect and start fresh this year.

Re: Am i alone?
I'm with you! Thankfully, after 18 years of teaching, I still get excited for school to start. I actually can't stand the days we go in without the students...if it weren't for the kids, the job would S.U.C.K!
Don't let a few spoiled apples ruin it for you.

Am i alone?
I'm an elementary instrumental music teacher, and my "first day" of teaching is never the real first day of school. It's my 10th year of teaching, and I feel so behind on my BTS prep that I don't feel that charge of excitement yet. . .but once I'm upstairs on 5th grade hall duty on Tuesday, I'm sure it will be there. Like mishmosh just said, don't let a few bad teachers spoil your joy! We all may have gripes about APPR and CCCS et al., but we all have to remember more than ever that this is about the KIDS.

Every year I felt the way your friend did, I DREADED the start of the school year as well as every single day until June... which is why I quit teaching. I think to be a teacher, you have to like it & enjoy it on some level.

I love teaching, but I will miss the time at home with my son. So, I think it's a mix of emotions for me.

Am i alone?
I am in a weird spot. Every year I have been excited to return back to work. I dread conference days, but love days with students. This year I am at a new school and I am very anxious.
During a normal year, though, I would be ecstatic to see the students. Right now, I most excited to go back and watch some of my former students play sports in the fall.

Re: Am i alone?
I was just given a teaching position and I am extremely out if my comfort zone. I am used to teachers focusing on academics, and I focus on behavior. Now I have to do everything!!!! I actually want the first week to be over so I can be a better sense of what I am doing!

I just quit too. I would have been the one ******** and complaining if I hadn't. But even going into last year, I was excited. I had a pretty good feeling it was going to be my last but I was still open to having a great year and maybe staying on.
Then the kids came and trounced on my dreams.

Am i alone?
I have always, always been excited for the first day, I love my job, this year I am leaving my son so I do have mixed emotions, but that is bc I wish I didn't have to leave him. I love working with the kids and actually wish they were there tomorrow, its adults that annoy me haha

Re: Am i alone?
I love my job and the students I have but this year was the first summer I took off and spent the whole summer with ds who is going to be 4 next week. This time was longer then the 8 weeks I took for maternity and I really am going to miss my little guy.
