Would you say something?
So September is a super stressful busy month for me at work.
In addition to that, DS starts nursery school for the first time and his evaluations are scheduled.
I anticipate maybe needing some 1/2 days off.
I tend to be honest with my boss but when it comes to this, while some of my co-workers know what's going on, I feel funny telling HIM.
Especially because he has a child the same age, and I still want to lean to the side of the spectrum that perhaps this is just DS being a difficult child and nothing more.

i would... there is nothing to be ashamed of if he is on the spectrum.
thats me though... i am so outspoken of DSs diagnosis (even before he had one) i sometimes think i ramble on too much about him.

Re: Would you say something?
I definitely would.....my principal has always been wonderful in giving me any time off or half says that I ever needed for anything when it came to my daughter. I am sure if you have a good relationship with your boss yours will understand.

Re: Would you say something?
i would hold off and see if you actually need the time. other than CPSE which has no flexibility, the appts were good at scheduling w/ us.
in my office, someone told the boss and then the whole office found out. i'm not embarrassed, but i also don't talk about it unless i have to at work.

Thanks ladies! I am leaning towards wait and see too. The CPSE meeting is already scheduled for the morning of 9/27. Does he go to that or is that for just us parents?
Kidz Therapies also seems like they would be flexible on location/time if services need to continue.

I told my principal about what was going on with my DS and that I wanted to have him evaluated. She was so understanding and it made it much easier to take time off without worrying that it would be frowned upon.

I always bring DD. I was told to bring DC to any/all meeting that determine services (was told this by the man who runs CPSE for the county). It helps to put a face to who they're talking about. If bringing DS is not an option, I was told to at least bring a photo in a frame and keep it on the table during the meeting.

Re: Would you say something?
I decided to shoot my boss an email late in the day last week. I just stated that I am planning to take some half days related to my son starting school the week of 9/11.
I also said I had a few appts for my son on Friday mornings when I normally don't come into the office, in case he needs to schedule me for something, and I ended it by saying I have a CPSE meeting set up on 9/27 at 9AM.
He responded back right away with "OK".

This really depends on your child. i know i would never bring DS, because talking to him, looking at him, and meeting him and conversation with him, you would never really know he as classic autism. i always took a photo with me and placed it on the table.

Re: Would you say something?
I only brought DS when I was asking for something that they were giving me hard time about. Wow good to know about the picture, I never thought of that! Hope your meeting goes smoothly
