Has anyone ever had a fundraiser for someone in need?
A friend of mine has a 2 year old who was diagnosed with Liver cancer. He is currently going threw Chemo and the medical bills are adding up. I want to help them any way that I can but I dont even know where to begin.
Its just a thought....

Can you set up a page on a fundraising site and send the link around? Seems to be a good way to spread the word.

Re: Has anyone ever had a fundraiser for someone in need?
A friend of mine did an event at a local bar. There was a fee to get in all which went to the cause, a 50/50 raffle, raffled off baskets that she got local businesses to donate, had a friends band play, drink specials, etc. she spread the word on Facebook and made a lot if money for her cause.

My aunt did this when my uncle was really sick and medical bills piled up. They did a fundraiser at a local bar and got in several bands and did 50/50 raffles and gift baskets and specials. There was a $20 entrance fee, but food was included and beer, wine and soda. They raised a lot of money.

We had a bowling event at wantagh lanes a few years ago for a friend. There was a ticket price which included a couple of games per person and shoes, we also had raffles for really nice donated gifts and a 50/50 It was very successful and pretty easy to do.

I have a food blog and a lot of people have raised a lot of money doing online bake sales. If you want to do something like that I can help you out.

Re: Has anyone ever had a fundraiser for someone in need?
My friend's family held a fundraiser for her son who had leukemia. They raised $250K
Entrance was $50 for food and raffles. It was packed. The key is spreading the word. At that time it was only email, but FB has made such a difference.

Re: Has anyone ever had a fundraiser for someone in need?
This is a good question and I have wanted to do this too in the past thought about it. I got mixed answers on google search on how to go about it. Is it legal in NY to do 50/50 and related fundraiser methods?? because isn't it considered lottery? Or is it something like yardsales (thats not 'legal' either I think) that is overlooked? I have some big ideas that I think could be great to help others but i've been chicken and confused...
good luck to op.
