Anyone use Suffolk OBGYN?
Does anyone have experience with Suffolk OBGYN(Richter or Marshak)? I am looking to switch MD's so I can deliver at Stony Brook, and I am looking for recommendations.
Thanks!

Re: Anyone use Suffolk OBGYN?
My very strong rec is Stony Brook OBGYN - Dr. Porte or O'Keefe are my favorites! I've been a patient there for almost 15 years and they delivered my first in 05 and will do the same in 2 more months! FM if you have any other questions

I switched away from that practice because I was very unhappy with them. They have so many doctors so there's no guarantee who will be there when you deliver. I had a couple appointments w dr marshak and was not a fan of her lack of bedside manner and compassion to say the least. Also they deliver at st. Charles, not stony brook.

Re: Anyone use Suffolk OBGYN?
I used them with my first pregnancy- I delivered at St Charles. I never had a problem with any of the doctors. The office ladies were the only ones that ever annoyed me. Dr. Marshak delivered my DD. She was absolutely wonderful during my c-section. They had a hard time giving me my spinal, and she was so caring and reassuring... don't think I would have gotten through it as well with out her.
My second pregnancy was with three village womans health who did deliver at stony brook. I only changed because my insurance did. Dr Davenport was a dream as well during my second c-section. While there Stony Brook OB/GYN was on call and Dr Porte came in and Dr. Welschner (sp?) and I liked them as well when they did their rounds...
I actually liked my stay better at st charles vs stony brook- the nurses were so much nicer to me... I would take nicer nurses and a roommate to nasty nurses being all by myself any day!

Re: Anyone use Suffolk OBGYN?
I have been a patient there for 11 yrs........love the practice. Marshak can be a little abrupt and she isnt very warm. Very matter of fact and quick. Richter is ok, not my favorite but ok. I actually think the men in the practice are warmer and nicer. Dr Petraco is AWESOME. So nice, takes his time, answers any and all questions. I love him!!!!
ETA - Delivered at St Charles..........loooooved it. Beautiful, clean, quiet hospital. Great experience.

Re: Anyone use Suffolk OBGYN?
Stony Brook OBGYN is awesome and delivers out of Stony Brook. They have multiple offices as well (SB, Mount Sinai, and Islip). My ob is Dr. Okeefe. He delivered my first.
I just wanted to add that I travel from huntington to see them. I have been going there for 15 years and to deliver at Stony Brook Hospital is worth the drive to me! I'm having twins so I'm literally doing a 45 minute drive every 2 weeks with a toddler but really trust the practice.

Re: Anyone use Suffolk OBGYN?
Thanks ladies! I didn't realize the Stony Brook practice allows you to see a specific doctor, I am definitely leaning towards them now. I have always been more comfortable with women doctors, so I will see if Dr. Welschar is taking new patients.
Thanks!

Dr Marshak was my Dr for years before I had DS and loved her. I switched practices cause I moved to Farmingdale and didn't want to drive all the way to SB or Pt Jeff to deliver.
I had 2 surgeries with Dr Marshak and she was wonderful during them.

Re: Anyone use Suffolk OBGYN?
I am with Suffolk OBGYN and I have mixed reviews. I will say at the beginning of my pregnancy I was going to switch to three village women's health.
I suffer with severe hyperemesis and shared that with them after setting up my initial appointment. When I called them to get in to see someone sooner than my 9th week they told me to go to the ER. Now my ER happens to be St. Charles (closest), which they don't service.
As a result, I decided to stick with Suffolk since they know me and I've been a patient for 6 years. Both Marshak and Richter have seen me in the hospital and in office. Both have been very supportive and understanding.
At the end of the day it's about what makes you feel the most comfortable. I wish you all the luck in finding a doctor that meets your needs and expectations.
