Our chickens are laying eggs!!!
We got our chickens in the spring, and they've been growing and growing and doing great. The other day, my husband checked....and we have eggs! They started on Friday, and so far - 7 eggs!
They taste just like store bought!

I only had a small taste...so I may have been wrong. No idea what they're eating....they're my husband's project! He feeds them, cleans them, and collects their eggs!
They're great chickens though! So nice and easygoing! And much smarter than the last bunch!

Wait, you have chickens and a kitten! You are soo lucky! LOL. I have 3 kids, 1 golden retriever, 3 cats and my next want is chickens LOL. I had them as a kid. CAN i ask you how many roosters and hens? How many eggs in how long? I wouldnt really want too many unless my neighbors wanted them. Do they smell? Flies? I never had a coop, and one was eaten. Id like to have a coop but am wondering if theyre confined overnight will they smell? Also what do you do with them over the winter? Good luck!!

6 chickens, 3 cats, and a whole lotta fish! Oh, and 1 kid.
We only have hens...no roosters. I'm pretty sure roosters aren't allowed where we live. They were born in April, and they just started laying eggs last week, so it took a few months for them to mature....but not terribly long. And we've only gotten about 7 eggs so far, so we're thinking only one or two of the chickens are laying eggs so far.
My husband built a coop in the backyard for them, there is a little enclosed part for them to live in, and then a caged in area for them to run around in during the day. At night, they go inside their coop so they're safe. At first, we had to teach them to go inside...but now they do it on their own. (We had chickens once before and unfortunately, the raccoons got to them and it didn't end well)
They don't smell badly....although I wouldn't spend a long period of time in the coop because they poop a whole lot and don't really care where they do it. And there are no additional bugs because of them.
I have no idea about the winter because we've only had them since April! We'll see what happens

My parents got chickens in May. They were born right before memorial day weekend. We can't wait for them to start laying eggs!!

Love chickens. My parents used to have them and we would eat the eggs - they are so fresh. And chickens make great pets too. Congrats!

When I was growing up we had chickens and the eggs were always so fresh and delicious. This just brought me back to when I was little
