Boarding Shamrock
In less than a week DH and I will be going on a Mediterranean Cruise and will be boarding Shamrock for 10 days. As excited I am for this trip I am also very sad and nervous leaving Shammy for all that time. He will be at a great place that he loves. It has daycare so he can play with all the other dogs all day, has a webcam hat I can check in on him and he will only be in a crate at night. He has been there for daycare before and loves it. So why do I feel so bad for leaving him? I dont want him to think we are abandoning him. Please tell me I am crazy and he will be fine.

Re: Boarding Shamrock
Celia, you're not crazy..your a dog mom! Its perfectly natural to feel bad/sad/sorry to leave your baby... but you said it yourself..."He will be at a great place that he loves. It has daycare so he can play with all the other dogs all day"
Of course Shammy will miss you, but he'll also be having a ball! He won't think your abandoning him-- he'll be too busy playing and having fun to think that.
Its almost like a vacation for him too...you'll both be 'away' and enjoying yourselves, and when you get home - you'll both be thrilled to see each other again.
Enjoy your cruise and time away knowing that Shammy is enjoying himself too...and just think about how fantastic your homecoming will be when you pick him up... he'll be jumping with excitement trying to tell you about all the fun he's had!

Re: Boarding Shamrock
Thanks Emily! I just wanted to make sure I not the only one to feel this bad. I have been telling him that he is going on vacation and going to play with his friends. He looks at me like he knows what I am talking about. Whenever I bring him to day care I tell him he " you wanna go play with your friends" so I think he knows where I am talking about. Well, I like to think he knows anyway. lol
I told Jerry he is going to have to be the one to bring him in and drop him off because I will be a blubbering mess. lol

Your not crazy.
These little fluff balls mean SO much to us. I never thought I could love a dog like my Sparky.
Your not crazy. The good news is he will be loved and cared for.
Its SO hard, but he will be ok :)

You are not crazy and he will be fine. I always get the guilts when I leave Bella Cat to go on vacation. She goes to my friend's house (her original mommy), so it's not a strange place. On shorter trips I have left her at home and had my dad stop in and check on her. I jsut miss her a heck of lot, although I can finally sleep thru the night without her. She's fine when we get home, looking for extra attention which of course she gets.

Re: Boarding Shamrock
You are not the only one!! I am thankful that when I go away...my famiy, and some dear firends look after my kids...
But the first time I had to board them... I dropped them off and then cried for hours! I so get it... And I'd so do the same.. send Jerry...cause I'd send Dave... I'd never make it out of there otherwise!!!
(ps... Dave and I are doing a Med cruise in 2014 <for my 40th> and I'll be going through the same thing...as my 'puppysitter' is coming with me...)
