House hunting...northport/harborfields school districts

Our family is interested in moving into 1 of these school districts and have found reasonably priced homes in east northport, northport, centerport, and greenlawn. Outside of visiting websites and visiting the houses/towns on the weekends, we don't have any friends or families to inform us of the best areas and all of the nuances of the town (traffic, best elementary school, etc). I was wondering if there are any residents from those towns on this forum who would like to share their insights.

Any advice is much appreciated. Th

I grew up in Harborfields school district and live in Elwood now. If you want list the MLS numbers and can tell you about traffic, etc.

We live in Northport, in the Village. We are down the block from an elementary school. There is a house for sale on our street. FM me for info :)

I'm in HF too (grew up as well). Pulaski is probably the busiest street, but very few houses are directly on Pulaski - they have a service road. 25A would be next busy. Broadway, Clay Pitts, Cuba Hill/Greenlawn Rd, Little Neck and Washington Dr would round out the list for busiest. But honestly, the traffic in HF is really minute just comparing to something like Larkfield in E Npt and larkfield is really not bad looking at streets in Nassau (I went to a class on Clinton in Garden City and it literally took me 10 minutes to get 1 mile!). Neither district has really any traffic.

What are you looking for - we are listing (to buy bigger in either HF or Npt) at the end of the year

ETA: HF is under the Princeton Plan, so all students go to the Primary School, then Intermediate, then Middle and then HS.

We live in East Northport (Ketay off of Larkfield) in the Commack School district. My little boy is only 7 months, but we have heard good things about the school district. I wanted a bigger school district for my kids and that made a difference in where we looked. Something to keep in mind b/c Harborfields and Elwood are much smaller than Commack and Northport/East Northport, if I'm not mistaken....

I LOVE our neighborhood. Feel free to FM me if you have specific questions.

Thanks, everyone. I will certainly FM those who expressed interest in being contacted that way. (This board is very to me so I appreciate open-arms welcome! Chat Icon )

We're looking for a smaller community/school district and seem to have a strong pull to Northport/Centerport area (great schools don't hurt either! Chat Icon ) There are a lot of things that I am playing catch up on since I am from south shore/middle of the island.

FYI, we're not looking to go any further east owing to the fact that I work in NYC 4 days a week.

Thanks again for the posts.

I grew up in East Northport and recently moved back. I also work in the NYC 4 days a week. I love the community and obviously think it is worth the commute. Happy to answer questions you may have.
