I have to be honest though - I feel like people are looking at me in the gym going "what the heck is she doing." Chat Icon

LOL--They will. But its OK> Dont worry about them. You are doing what you are doing for a Reason!!

Im sure they wish they knew what you were doing.........LOL

My old gym (Lucille) didnt have the button, but thankfully, my new one has the treadmill button of the intervals. OMG--so much easier--just a touch of a button. I tried the incline but I think Im going to skip the incline for now and work my way up. I think the incline is what kills ya. Chat Icon

Of course I didnt stretch good enough, so my hamstrings are real sore Chat Icon

Re: HIIT- I googled it

I would love to do this on my stationary bike, but the settings are very basic on it. I have a knob on it for the resistance. I am not so "smart when it comes to fitness." So in doing the stationary bike, would I do one minute at 5 resistance and 30 seconds at 9 resistance? This sounds great! I just need HELP implementing it!

I am far from an expert- Snowboardgirl helped me

she has me doing this

5 min warm up

1 min jog ( 3.7 mph)
30 second run- ( I am doing 9.5mph) very fast

repeaat 8 times

5 minute cool down

Do u increase the times each session? Or each week, etc?

Re: HIIT- I googled it

I might try this, right now I have been doing something similar.
.20 mile warm up 3-4mph
1 mile 6.5mph
.20mile 7.5mph
.20 4.5
.20 7.5
.20 4.5
and repeat that then do
.20mile cool down. for a total of 4 miles
Do you think there would be much more of a difference with the HIIT?

I might add in more sets- I did 8 this week- up from 6

I think the whole point is not to do a ton of cardio-you are suppose to burn alot of calories AFTER you get off the treadmill- it's like tricking your body I guess

I just started- I love it- I hated running 45 minutes! this is quick

Re: HIIT- I googled it

This is probably similar to the curves philosophy. You work your azz off and then rest for 30 sec intervals each.

don't add in more sets!! if you can do more sets, then you are not running fast enough.

Re: HIIT- I googled it

I just did this for the first time. I warmed up with a mix of walking/jogging.

Then I did the slow intervals at 6.0 and the fast at 9.0. I definitely think I could push the fast intervals faster but I was just afraid I was going to fall off since the treadmill was moving so fast Chat Icon I see you ladies seem to be doing the slow intervals much slower...but I feel like the jump would be too much for me. Is this ok? Then I cooled off jogging at 6.5 and lower for four min and walked for one.

Thanks ladies! This is a great workout! I'm so sweaty!

If you are going to run at your high interval at 9.0, your slower interval should def. be alot slower than 6.0......it should me somewhere in the 3's. 3.5 or so. The drastic slow to drastic fast speed in heartbeat is what makes HIIT work so well so def. try and slow the 6.0 down a bit. Are you repeating this method 8 times, along with a 5 minute warm up and cool down. Total time should be about 22 minutes....Start to Finish.

If you want to run or jog a little after your session, then go ahead, but you should be so tired, you shouldnt want to....but I admit, I do anyway just for like another 5 minutes or so. LOL

Re: HIIT- I googled it

That time sounds about like the time it took me and I did it 8 times plus the warm up and cool down. I think I had gone about 2.5 miles by the time I was done. I definitely need to increase the speed of the fast then and lower the speed of the slow. I really wasn't that tired when I was done so I don't think I was going fast enough. Thanks!
