Birthday Ideas for Mom
My Mom has had a really tough month and her birthday is at the end of October. I would like to do something really special for her but am at a loss.
A little background, a few days before the beginning of this month, her boss (she was his secretary) passed away unexpectedly and she actually was the last person (except for drs and nurses) to see and talk to him before he passed. 1 week later, my Dad was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia which actually was a misdiagnosis and wound up being an emergency heart problem which required open heart surgery. She constantly visited him at the hospital before and after work and has been taking care of him and the house since he came home and is unable to do much physical activity. She still works full time during all of this and has not shown any emotion. In addition, her and my Dad had a trip to Florida booked 2 weeks ago and couldn't go because of my Dad's recuperation after surgery and didn't have travel insurance either. She is strong and does not show emotion at all and when asked how she is doing, it's always "fine." She really has very little emotion right now about much and is totally worn out.
If you've made it this far, thank you for reading and if you have absolutely any ideas for a birthday gift, getaway, etc., please recommend! I really am at a loss for ideas!
TIA

Re: Birthday Ideas for Mom
The first thing that comes to mind is a spa weekend....can someone stay with your dad if you take your mom away for the weekend? There are so many spa options available close to NYC - old saybrook CT and montauk -gurneys spring to mind.
Sounds like she needs a complete chilled out weekend with someone taking care of her. She sounds like my mom - strong on the exterior but when given a chance she may break down and show that emotion that you know has been welling up inside.
OR if you thought she might prefer a wine weekend then you could always visit the wineries on the North Fork and maybe do some shopping at the tanger outlets on the way home.
I hope you come up with something and your mom gets a much deserved break
