Cavalier King Charles spaniel
Can anyone give me any personnal experiences or information about this breed? My mother is interested in getting another dog and this is one she is interested in.

They have some rescue organizations that she might be interested in reading about.
Please persuade her to stay away from a pet store. Look into a rescue or a reputable breeder.

The best way to get good, reputable breeder/rescue contact information is to start out at www.akc.org and find the breed you are interested in. On that link should be a breeder/rescue referral contact person with their name and email address or phone number. Call or email the breed contact and they will usually email you a list of reputable breeders in your area.
Cavaliers are sweet, loveable, loyal dogs-but purchased from the wrong kind of breeder or pet store -can be prone to serious genetic illnesses (eye problems, heart conditions,epilepsy)

ETA: My best friend had a Cavalier spaniel. She was the most sweet and affectionate dog I have ever met!  Unfortunately, she got her from a pet store and she only lived to be 6 yrs old. Her eyeball actually fell OUT OF THE SOCKET one day and she died! That;s why you have to be VERY careful with pet store dogs. It's hit or miss.....

My cousins have one. He is SO CUTE, but very very hyper and is always humping someone/something (but he is not neutered, so maybe that is why).

My Cavalier passed away last year at 14 years old. She was the most lovable dog in the world and I miss her so much.. Her only problem was that she had a heart condition called cardiomyopathy and was on medication for years before she passed. I highly recommend the breed, but contact a breeder.

omg - this dog is sooooooo cute!  I am dying to get a dog but FH says I work too much to care for one (which is true)...  I am looking for a new job but no luck yet...

Thanks julz and kristen92450 I have been reading all the websites about them but I wanted some personnal accounts. Kristen I am sorry about your loss!! We just lost our dog of 11 years to a heart condition!

A very very good friend of mine has a cavalier KC & he is the most adorable dog EVER! My friend and I go to puppy training together & he is very clever & very attentive to his human. He is a dog that will do anything to please his human. He is great with kids & also my friend's 70+ year old mother as well.
Things to know:
They do need to be bathed and combed regularly, as their fur & undercoat is notorious for attracting dust & holding dander.
They need to have their ears cleaned every couple of days as they are prone to infections.
They should have a soft headband for their ears (not sure which stores have them, but I can ask my friend where he gets his) to keep the ears out of the way when they eat, or else they will chew their ears by mistake.
Diet is very important as they need food that will keep their liver & joints healthy, as well as their coat and skin.
