Strange but sweet incident at Target today

I'm still not sure what to make of this but I know I should just be grateful! I was in Target with DD when a woman stopped me to ask how old she is. She said, "I have a gift for you" and handed me a set of baby einstein cds. She said she wanted DD to have them and was going to give me the money to pay for them. I tried the thanks but you shouldn't approach but she was adamant. She gave me $13 cash to cover the $10 item plus tax. I tried to at least give her back the extra 3 but she insisted and said I should just say thank you, which of course I did several times. It was really nice of her but still is strange to me. I'm not good at accepting gifts from people I know let alone a perfect stranger!

That was very sweet, weird but sweet. Maybe she was just paying it forward!

I think it is weird.

Was she alone? Please make sure you still have your credit cards etc. Hopefully it was not a tactic to distract you.

Sorry.... I am a pessimist by nature...

I would probably feel weird accepting, but my mind flies to all sorts of assumptions. Maybe she could never have children, recently lost a grandchild, etc. and she wanted to buy them for someone so she thought she'd do it randomly!

Random acts of kindness are just that, random Chat Icon

If she was genuine, that is so nice!

Strange but sweet incident at Target today

When we went to cloth diapers I had 3 $18.99 gc's from Pampers because my DS had a horrible reaction and when I called they sent them to us even though I said no. I was in Target and was looking for parents with small children and just randomly went up to moms asking if they used pampers lol. I finally found one and gave her all 3 gc's. Sometimes being nice is just being nice. Weird I know, but genuine.

No scam, she really was just being nice. Maybe it's a little good karma coming my way after donating a bunch of formula and other goodies a few days ago. I also insisted on a woman taking my extra carters coupon- she said no at first but she had $100 worth of stuff and her coupon was expired. Umm, take the coupon! Hopefully DD enjoys the cds as much as this woman hoped she would!

Re: Strange but sweet incident at Target today

Something very similar happened to my DH and DS the other day....they went to costco for pizza for dinner (I work 12 hr shifts, so he has to feed him when i'm working)....anyway, this woman was kinda playing with my DS, making face, etc (DS is 2) and then she approached my DH saying that she would like to give DS something. She handed my DH a gallon zip lock back filled with money (it looked like she made her kids empty their piggy banks, but probably $10-$15). My DH thanked her, but declined to take it saying that there was probably someone else that needed it more. I'm pretty sure that she probably thought he was a single father that could only really afford the pizza from costco Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon not to mention that DH dressed him that morning so god only knows what he looked like.....she probably thought he was homeless!!

The weirdest part is, the same thing happened when DS was about 6 months. This woman came up to me (again in Costco) stating that DS was so cute she wanted to buy him something.... I was thinking a small book or whatever, but she handed me a rotiserre chicken instead Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon very strange...generous, but strange....

Re: Strange but sweet incident at Target today

That was really sweet.

Once when DH took my DS (9) fishing at our local lake an old man was there watching them. After a while he came up to DH and told him he had something that he though DS would like and if it would be ok to give it to him.

He went to his car and pulled out a huge box filled with hot wheels cars. He said he had collected them since he had gotten married for when he would one day have a son but he never did. 5 beautiful daughters and not one grandson. He said he would keep them in his trunk and hope he would find someone to take them. He said he just knew Dh and Ds were the ones.

It was really touching. When DH told me I cried.Chat Icon

Chat Icon very sweet. i would try to see it as just a random act of kindness Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

something very similar happened to one of my coworkers. she was walking to her car also after shopping in a target.

a woman approached my friend (my friend with her 2 year old daughter) and handed her two wrapped gifts. she explained that her daughter was beautiful and reminded her of her granddaughter who passed away just before her second birthday. every year on her GDs birthday anniversary, she buys and wraps gifts and gives them to children who remind her of her GD Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon her way of feeling connected, keeping her GD alive through the joy of other children.

very sweet, sort of bizarre if you are the one approached but VERY sweet and sincere.

i wonder if maybe there is a similar story behind the DVDs. This is another example of "you just never know what other people are dealing with"... maybe this is her way of dealing/coping with something? Chat Icon
