School Crossing Guard
I remember seeing how they need more and I thought wow that might not be too bad as a job (except for the weather) and especially when I start to have a family -- to possibly be the guard for that school.
But I have no idea how to go about finding one.
How do you apply?
What is the salary? Benefits?
How do they place you? Do you have a choice?
Any information would be appreciated.

Re: School Crossing Guard
I think its a civil service job......I would look on their site and call the office in Hauppauge. They would be able to help you :)

Re: School Crossing Guard
In Suffolk County they are an off shoot of your local police department. When I did it (2 yrs ago) I had to go to the local police station and speak with the officer in charge. There are written, Pysch and Physical tests that have to be passed before you can even start. Basically - it's almost the same testing that the officers go through. I didn't like the weather (the winter was really cold and I got so sick!) Also, you are on call at first until you get placed perm. That means you can get a call at 5 am to be at a post at 6:30 if the school starts at 7:30. I didn't like it - but I have friend that loves it. Hope this helps
