Coworker/friend not pulling weight - Vent
Just have to vent about a coworker I'm working with. I'm friends with her at work so can't complain to anyone there. I don't know what to do!
Basically she was hired to support me with my job but I feel like she's not pulling her weight. She seems to spend more time than usual on the phone making personal calls and web surf.
When I asked her to do something she takes 3-5x longer than it would take me to do the same thing, and she's 'done' with the assignment it comes back looking unfinished and somewhat unprofessional.
There has been multiple times when I have to step in just to finish things so it can be done right. One of my peers is also working with her and it got to a point where after multiple revisions, he just took the assignment from away from her so he can finish it himself.
What would you do if this coworker is also your friend? I can't do her work and mine too!

You need to separate friendships from professional relationships. If she's not pulling her weight, you need to document it and have a conversation with her. She can't improve if you don't express the areas of concern.
And if she still doesn't improve, then it's an HR issue. She might not be the right person for the job.

Does she report to you? I'd speak to her about her performance & how it impacts you. How I did it would depend on the reporting structure.
