Any IT People Here?
I am having WiFi issues and while DH is somewhat tech savy, this seems to be beyond his expertise. We have tried all the easy troubleshooting fixes and nothing is working.

I am not an expert by any means, but did you see if your router needed an update?

Re: Any IT People Here?
We just bought a new router yesterday and DH updated the firmware, so that is not it. I *think* there is a problem with the signal getting interrupted or some kind of setting on my laptop that got changed, but again, I have no idea and am only guessing. At some points I can connect to the internet for extended periods of time and then in a flash I am zapped off and cannot find any network connections at all.

if it works for short periods of time, it could mean something's wrong with the router itself. is it when you're doing things that use up a lot of bandwidth (like google maps, pages with lots of images, downloading lots of things at the same time, etc)?
is it just your laptop that's stopping or every other machine (computers, phones, etc) in your house?

Re: Any IT People Here?
none of my other devices are wireless. DH's Mac is hardwired. My laptop is the only one that needs to connect to the wireless network. DH does have an Ipod Touch and that seems to find our network fine. I find that many of the times when I have a connection and then lose it, it is when I go to switch to a different web address (ex. from facebook to LIF). I am beyond frustrated. It is a brand new router and it is doing the exact same thing the previous router did (which is why we replaced it).

Re: Any IT People Here?
I downloaded a free app for my Android tablet that shows signal strength of wifi spots. That's how I found out that one of my routers would go in and out. Every couple of seconds, I would have a signal, then nothing. Couldn't figure it out until I got the wifi signal analyzer.
I'm sure one of us could find a free Windows-based wifi analyzer that you could use to test your network.
Have you tried hard-wiring your laptop? The router could be fine, but it could be your laptop that is having problems.

Yes, DH just ran a cable to my laptop so I can get on the internet but this is not a good solution. IMO I have a laptop with wireless capabilities so I dont need to have a cable running across my living room!
I will check the signal strength applications, although I do not understand why I would have this issue with a brand new Belkin $150 router
it certainly is possible it could be a problem with my laptop but I do not know how to diagnosis that and what if anything I am able to do to fix it.

Your wireless card probably has diagnosics, you should try running them.
