Group B + and antibiotics not working?
I am now on my 3rd round of antibiotics for group B strep and I am getting frustrated and annoyed. It is not only showing in my vaginal culture (which is how it presented in my 2nd pregnancy) its showing in my urine culture. On top of that, bc of all these antibiotics I've had the never ending yeast infection and I think before this I've had one my whole life.
Now my OB has me on clindamycin and a prescription cream. I don't feel comfortable even taking the clindamycin after reading the side effects. I asked the dr what's happens if the strep B doesn't clear, she said nothing, she's not worried about it. She's worried about me being comfortable. I said well its the antibiotics making me uncomfortable, so why do I keep getting prescribed them. And even if the strep B clears, it could always come back before the end of my pregnancy. I'm 21 weeks now.
Has this happened to anyone?

Hmmmm I've never heard of being on antibiotics for it during your pregnancy. I tested positive for Group B for both my pregnancies and was only given antibiotics through my IV while in labor. That was it and I never worried.

This is what i thought happened as well... i think you can only pass it on during labor. At least thats what i heard

third. I was postive at 36w and just told that I would get IV antibiotics during labor. Never anything prior.

I didn't test positive with my 1st pregnancy. I did with my 2nd pregnancy and I remember them giving me a round of antibiotics during pregnancy and than the IV during labor.
But this is annoying now. If I take antibiotics 1 times a year normally that is alot. This is my 3rd round in 3 months. And my stomach is a wreck from all of them. Last time it was Keflex. This time clindamycin. I think I am just going to stop antibiotics and tell them I"m not comfortable taking all these meds unneccessarily. If i still test positive at 36 weeks when they do the internal, I'll take a round than to be precautious. But I need IV antibiotics anyway during labor b/c I have mitral valve prolapse.

I had no idea you were pg, congrats!
I'm with the other girls, I didn't realize that they prescribed antibiotics during the pregnancy, I thought it was during labor.

Why do you have to take antibiotics? Never heard of this. Usually if you test pos for group B they give you antibiotics through IV while you are in labor.
I tested pos with my 2nd pregnancy, I had a high risk regnancy and was scheduled for a CS, I spoke to 2 different high risk drs and they both told me that wheather you are planning a VB or a CS you get antibiotics through IV during labor or before surgery (especially if your water breaks before the scheduled CS) they actually ended up not giving me antibiotics when I had my CS. They didn't think t was needed.
My friend just gave birth also, she had VB , she was also group B pos and they just gave her an IV antibiotics when her water broke.

I think you are probably on antibiotics because of your positive urine culture (essentially a UTI). I'm sorry they are making you uncomfortable

There is no reason why you should be on the antibiotics for testing positive for group b... That is only given during labor... And to be honest, you should have been tested for this at the end of your pregnancy... Like 35 weeks or so... I would question your ob...

I was on one round of antibiotics after testing + for group b strep, so it's not unheard of...it didn't do anything though. But it really didn't matter, because I had a c-section anyway!
I would see if you ob could just dc the antibiotics until you deliver and then get them through the iv, just so you don't continue to have the yeast infection! And take assadolophys (sp)

I had no idea I was pregnant either, until about 6 weeks  It was a surprise! I'm about 20 weeks now. We'll find out next week what we're having.

That's what I thought. But I have no symptoms. And I asked the dr, what happens if the infection doesnt clear with this round? She said it doesnt matter, she's not worried about the strep B  she just wants me to be comfortable. I said, I would be comfortable if I hadn't started taking all these antibiotics.
And she gave me some prescription cream, Nystatin and Triamcinolone, which is a steroid and anti-fungal cream. Looked it up and it's a class C drug. WTF??? I am not one to take meds to begin with, let alone when I'm pregnant and I have no idea if it can hurt the baby. I have my next appt. Monday and I'm going to tell the dr how I feel. Plus I think the positive urine cultures could be wrong b/c with all 3 of the tests, they never provided me with those wipes or whatever htey usually do to have you clean before you pee in the cup. I'm betting thats the problem.

i had to go to the ER when i was 8w and a few days afterwards, the hospital called me and told me that i was positve for Group B.
I told my OBGYN when i found out and they told me not to worry about it. i also thought you were only treated for it once you were in labor.
