when do bedtimes start to emerge/How to create a routine?

Im still at the mercy of waking up/going to sleep around their feeding schedules-whenevr they may be so I feel like my days have no begining/end yet.... Just curious when I can start to see an actual bedtime and how to go about establishing a routine.

Id like bathtime/storytime to be a part of bedtime routine but if every night they're eating at a different time how do I implement it? I never want to wake them to take a bath if I "think" they're going to be up in 30 mins to eat... And they're still awake/asleep at different times throughout the day.

baths every night around the same time...like even if they were eating every 3 hours, id still do a bath every night before or after their 7-8 pm bottle. once they start sleeping longer stretches a bed time will emerge....but it takes 3-4 months. just go with the flow right now and do what works for you.....

Re: when do bedtimes start to emerge/How to create a routine?

I had a DS when my twins were born so I worked them into our already set schedule. At that time bath was at 6:30. I'd usually get my DS to bed and then I'd start attempting to nurse them to sleep.

At about 6 weeks they finally started to sleep longer stretches at night and more awake during the day. By the time they were 8 weeks they were being bathed at 6:15, nursed to sleep by 6:30 and sleeping until 6:30 in the morning.

WHAT?!!?!?!!! Oh my goodness this would be a dream!!

Edited to ask, was this the routine every night? I didn't plan on bathing every night.

They take a bottle at 7-8 pm every night? IDK how this is happening.. our nights are so unpredictable if they're eating every 3-4 hours throughout the day, the early evening bottle is never at the same time.

I'm not sure how old your LOs are but if you want them in a routine, then YOU should start to create one.

If they are eating every 3-4 hours, then decide they will eat every 3 1/2 hours.

Decide what time you want bedtime to be and stick with it.

Implement the routine you want and be consistent every day.

They will get it!

My boys thrive on routine. They were both much happier babies when I stopped letting them dictate how the day was going to go. Especially my fussier guy. He's much happier knowing what to expect.

THIS!!!!
My girls started out on the nicu routine. A feeding every 3 hour weather they we showing feeding cues or not. We also needed them to gain weight. We stuck with it. When i went back to work we tweeked it. Woke them more here or there. Even now at 14 months I will wake one or both to keep them on the same routine.
We started the bottle/baby Einstein, bed time stories and bed when they were about 9 months/7 months adjusted.

we woke them for a dream feed at 10 ish for months and months. Once we knew they wouldnt wake up at 1 or 2 and could skip the dream feed. we added the bed time story

edited: I found that a bath is not something that could be a part of our bedtime routine. It is WAY too stimulating for them. I also dont bathe them every day. We do every other, unless they need it.

let me rephrase...
bathe them before the bottle closest to 7-8 pm. yes every day their schedule will change so i say there will be a bottle some time between 5-8 pm right? so bathe them right before that bottle.

i promise this will all changwe as soon as they start sleeping longer..

my bedtime for them used to be 10 pm....then 9 pm...now 8 pm...

its going to take a while to get into a set routine

I agree. Start your routine with the bath. This is how I got my DS on a schedule and the same with the twins. It gives you a good starting point. And when my DS was NB I realized his bath time set the precedence for the whole following day. And so far. So the schedule just fell into place on it's own.
