Do you buy everything that is Santa's list?
DH and I are disagreeing with DS's Christmas list this year. DS wants a Hot Wheels track, he wanted one last year and didn't get it. I feel guilty not getting because I know he really wants it. DH feels those toys are garbage and just break.
So how do you settle a disagreement like this? I normally buy all gifts. I told him this year I will take care of the girls and he can buy for DS then he can see what it feels like to see the look of disappointment.

Well, I'm not sure how to answer your question, but I can tell you-- my parents got DS a Hot Wheels track last Christmas. "Sky Jump" I think. It was lots of fun and he did play with it often, but it was TOTAL GARBAGE. I finally chucked it last month after getting sooooo sick of constantly putting it back together after it fell apart once again.

Re: Do you buy everything that is Santa's list?
DS received one for his birthday. It was played with, but yes it is absolutely junk. He liked it a lot and was/is really excited to play with it. I would still get it but know that you will likely throw it away after a bit.
ETA: If the toy is reasonably priced, available, and I have not already finished purchasing the rest of their Hanukkah presents, then yes, I would try to get it. My kids made a verbal wish list from the TRU catalogue. I try to get what my kids want, and some things I think they would like. My son and daughter have been asking for pillow pets for over a year now. DS was begging for the transformers pillow pet from Target. I really think it is a baby toy, but he has asked for it for a while. I said he could get it for Hanukkah, and when I saw it in the store I picked one up.
ETA: I don't get everything on their wish list either, but if it persists for a long time, I may end up getting it later on for another holiday/birthday.

Dont get everything on the list, but if there is something I know they really want, I'd get it. My DD is not much of a toy kid so I'll try anything lol. Those things are junk, SS used to be so into them. But we still got him them. They only lasted for a little while but he had fun with them while they did.

We don't get everything on the list, but try to get the things they really seem interested in.

No, they don't get everything on their lists. DS went through the TRU catalog that came in the mail yesterday and wants pretty much everything.
DD is more likely to get everything since she doesn't ask for a lot. She always says she's happy with what she has already. It's sweet and I'm proud of her, but it's a little frustrating when people start asking me for ideas of what she'd like.

No, I definately don't get everything on the list. But if there is something that they REALLY want, especially enough to ask for it a second year in a row, I'd get it...even if I knew it was junk. Christmas is about things being magical for them, and fun, not practical.

This is how I feel too.
I limit them to 10 items each that they can put on the list so it doesn't get out of hand and some of the things are small so I don't mind buying everything.
I may just suck it up and buy it and deal with DH after Christmas. I mean DS is 6.5 and is getting better at putting things together himself.

Re: Do you buy everything that is Santa's list?
I do not buy all the gifts on their list. Ever. If I did, my kids would be up to their ears in iThings and video games and would own an arsenal of BB guns and Airsoft weapons. Sometimes i have to use my Mommy judgement.
With your specific scenario, I think I'd buy the Hot Wheels if he's over the age of 5. He wants it and he has no real frame of reference by which to judge that it's junk. I think there is something to be said for letting him learn about the value of quality provided that the item isn't terribly expensive (and from my recollection, Hot Wheels tracks are more than reasonably priced). If it breaks fast, you can remind him - if he asks again - that it's the kind of toy that doesn't really work like it says it will.
If he's under 5 I wouldn't bother since lessons about value are kind of lost before that age.
Of course, if your husband is really against it, you have to sell him first. To do that, I'd just say "It's not expensive, it's in our budget, he really wants it and it can be a lesson for him."

Re: Do you buy everything that is Santa's list?
DS knows that his family buys him gifts AND Santa brings 2-3 gifts. He will definitely get the ones he asks Santa for and the other stuff on his list he will most likely get, even if I request some of it from family for him. But to answer your question, if it written on his actual Santa list, its a BIG yes.

Yes, but from the get go we only tell them that they can put one BIG gift on there and 4 smaller ones that way no one is disappointed.

Re: Do you buy everything that is Santa's list?
We don't get everything on the list-we would have to buy a TRU with everything she puts on the list.
However, I would get something like that, especially if it's the second year they are asking for it. I would hate for them to say "all I ever wanted for XMAS was XXX and I never got it", I'm a sucker, I couldn't listen to that year after year!

Re: Do you buy everything that is Santa's list?
They won't get everything on their list if it is over my budget, but something they really want and asked for last year and again this year I would get. What about gift cards? Does he wind up with any? Mine usually get a few so anything they didn't get they can pick out after xmas. Would this be an option?

They don't get everything on the list, depending on how big the list is. My older son asked for a ton. My little guy has 2 things on is list .. so he will get them.
In your situation i would get the track. They are made like crap, but my boys love them.

They do not get everything they want for Christmas. They get within reason. Santa has a lot of kids he needs to get presents for & also some of the things on their list aren't what I want in the house & Santa knows that (dog, bb gun, etc)

Ugh! Robbie's been pestering me for a BB gun and an Airsoft gun. He just refuses to get it through his thick, pre-teen boy head that I will NOT have either here in my house. Evidently.. a lot of kids their age DO have them.

Yes-- we try our best to have Santa deliver everything they were dreaming of, but if they ask for a dog or a baby sibling, sorry kids... you're SOL
