Re: financial advisor
I recently met with one
I told him my goals for the next 5 years and he helped me put a plan together to achieve them
he is my Dad's financial planner- so I will be investing with him in the future after I have a full funded emergcy fund with 1 years of expenses and purchase a house
this was his suggestion based on my goals- it was very eye opening

Re: financial advisor
okay..thanks.. giving that I'm single and rent I def want to purchase a home co-op or condo but right now it seems so far away and def getting up there in age. Obviously things don't always turn out the way you want them to so def have to figure my personal finances in case I don't marry or live with anyone in the immediate future.
Is a financial advisor expensive? and where do you search for one?

Re: financial advisor
My Dad is a CFP (certified financial planner) in Queens. Let me know if you want his info.

it didn't cost me anything until I start investing (I am not sure if this is b/c he manages my dad and grandma's money or if that is normal)
he set up a whole plan for me
I would start asking people you know for recommendations - that's what I did and then my Dad suggested his- and it made sense to me-

Would be interested in this too ... Do I have to pay just to sit down with them?

Re: financial advisor
There are various ways a licensed financial advisor is compensated; 1. By retainer or an upfront flat planning fee 2. By retaining a % of earnings on investments over a period of time. The specific %, min. earnings and time period would be detailed in a contract. 3. Through internal fees built into a product.
Do you have a specific financial or protection goal you are looking to meet or are you trying to devise a financial plan?
