Response to Intervention (RTI)
Anyone have a child in reading and or math support under RTI? DS is in Kindergarten and is in Tier 2 for both reading and math. I feel like he is a smart kid and I can't believe that he's not meeting Kindergarten benchmarks. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Response to Intervention (RTI)
My DD gets reading intervention every day based on her DIBELS results. I was floored to get the notice because she attended day care where they worked on letters and she has a really good vocabulary for a 5 year old. And, to get on my high horse, I am/was an English teacher and DH is an economics professor. We've done our own work at home with her and have always read to her.
Anyway, to answer your question, you should know that standards have gone WAY up. My school had a meeting for parents of kids in intervention and I learned that 100 out of 210 kindergarten kids are getting intervention in reading (I haven't heard about math). So it has more to do with the increase in benchmarks than anything else. Also, your school has probably also found that earlier help is better.
