Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
went to apologize and the person began cursing you out and carrying on like a loon, threatening you?
I think this is why there is so much negativity and bad things that happen in the world.
I was out earlier and I started to pull out of a parking lot and then noticed a guy about to walk in front of me.
I stopped so he could go, and this was the reaction I got. He walked towards me and was seconds away from hitting my car with his fist. I got the light and just went around him, letting him carry on.
I don't even know if this is something that warrants an "apology" because it happened so fast, but it definitely put ME on guard.

No, that's never happened to me. But I've seen people act erratic like that all the time, I think they just have a bad temper...

Re: Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
I've never had it happen to me, but my new thought on life is that you never know what people are going through. I know if I am stressed, the stupidest thing can set me off (not that I've ever done something like this, but luckily I haven't had to deal with anything that life altering). I used to get mad if someone was nasty (ex. a cashier, someone on the phone etc.), but now I just smile, and wish them a nice day. Because you just never know...and you can't let someone else's bad energy ruin you

I always always always apologize. I probably over apologize to a fault and yes I have been in a similar situation.

I would have apologized unless the guy acted like that. It's an honest mistake and the guy blew it way out of proportion.

If he had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, I could see how someone could get angry almost being taken out by a car, I would probably yell too. However, if it wasn't that close at all, dude needs to chill out.

YES! This happened to me the other day. I said sorry and they guy walked in front of my car and stopped and stared me down. Then he walked as slow as he possibly could staring me down the whole time. I was honestly scared.
People are so nuts lately. It is not eveyone's job to police the world and we are all HUMANS!! Humans who err. It's freaking crazy that no one allows anyone to make mistake anymore.

Re: Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
a few years ago my mother was parked on avenue N in bklyn, getting her packages and stuff from her mail place. Some a$$hole blocked her in by double parking. My mom tried to get her car out of the spot b/c I guess she had some room, but couldnt. So she sits in her car and is waiting and sees the dude coming near the car.
My mom asked him to move the car so she can get out of the spot and he went nuts. He punched my mother in the face and spit on her, left her in the street, on Avenue N (with tons of bus & car traffic) AND TOOK OFF.
thankfully someone got a plate # and eventually was caught. but there is so much aggression out there on the road it scares me.
you were wise to just go around him and ignore him.

Re: Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
People are so insane and have so much rage over stuff.
I get the "you don't know what else is going on in their life" but geez.
I used to work for a program that had a site on the grounds of Creedmore. My colleagues use to say they felt safer there, then out in public because at least they KNEW the people who lived there were crazy, but were being treated.

ITA with this.
You know, there have been times in my life when I had a LOT of negative stuff going on. I didn't know that gave me a free pass to be a raging azzhole.

Re: Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
I think every car should have a thank you and a sorry light on the back. I think it would ease a lot of road rage.
It's too bad that the first emotion is anger, but even if it is, it might not be long lived. I have gotten much better at letting it roll off my back. I don't want them to bring me down.

Re: Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
Funny story about this actually. I was driving my 4 year old dd to nursery school in my small suburban community. A land rover, out of nowhere, driving so so fast makes a turn on to the street we are on, causing an almost head on collision with where my baby was sitting in the back. I drove off the road into bushes to avoid him/her. I slow down and get back on road, shaking uncontrollably. I horn her. And tears come to my eyes. I'm so thankful that there was a place I could go to the right to avoid this nutjob! If there was a barrier to the right, we would have died on impact.... I slow up but she is in front of me. Im now following her, cursing her in my head and saying out loud to my daughter- "this woman is a psycho", "should be off the road", "there is something wrong with her", "im calling the cops" calling her every name is book... i starts to realize we are making all the same turns. She goes to same nursery school! I see her get out after parking! She turns around and it is MY friend- my friend who I went out to dinner with last week, and I'm like disappointed because I cant hate her anymore- I like this woman!!! Shes awesome! She comes over and starts to apologize and Im like- Its no problem. lol... All my anger melted in a second when I saw who it was. Now, I really try not to judge.

Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
Yes happened to me near NYu a few years ago; I was trying to make a right turn and hedged too far into the intersection. Someone jolted out in front of my car and hit my hood with her fist then screamed at me as people crossed by. I was so shocked I reversed and got out of there. I know I was wrong, but the reaction was out of control. I actually felt scared.

Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
So many times I'm paranoid about hitting someone but it seems I see so many who engage in risky driving behavior.
- too fast in parking lots
- crossing lanes during a space in traffic at a red light to get to other side of road to pull into a gas station
-people who park at horrible angles after u have, and it makes it harder to get out
-motorcycle people who weave in and out or - the worst - drive between the lanes. I hate summer driving for that reason alone.

Re: Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
Yes, this has happened to me, I will never forget. About 4 years ago around Christmas time, I went to the mall on my lunch break. I was in a great mood, had my Christmas music playing, and pulled into a parking spot. As I turn off my car, this guy approaches my car and is screaming at me that I must have tapped his bumper pulling into my spot. I tried to calm him down and explain that I had no idea and I would pay if there was any damage and he in turn continued to curse me out and call me a blind c! I got out of the car and looked, there was absolutely no scratch, nothing on either car but he insisted i hit him and ruined his brand new powder blue prius. I just said, well Happy Holidays and got back in my car as he continued to call me every nasty word he could. He ruined my whole day, and I never went into the mall. People can just be azzholes, mistakes happen and if people could be courteous to each other and not so quick to attack, the world would be a much better place

I thought 2 fast blinks with your front/back lights was a universal sign for "Sorry" and/or "Thank you". Or is that not common knowledge?

Have you ever made an honest mistake.......
Yes i have had that happen not just with a car but here at work. Honest mistake of which I apologized and ended up being screamed at and threatened. It has completely ruined my entire work environment. It happened back in June and I'm still suffering. *sigh*
But yes I did the car thing once and old man went OFF. I think it was just a gut response to fear. I didnt even get close to my guy.
On the other side of this is the lady who carries an air horn with her as she walks. I came up to the intersection to an access road. As she's walking on the side of an access road, I saw her and stopped but she was walking so slow I let my leg rest a little.. so I rolled forward like 2ft.. still PLENTY of space between her and I. As she walked in front of my car staring at me (and me not moving now) she stopped in front of me.. dug through her purse (which now has me thinking that i need to run the crazy bat over if she pulls out a gun) and then pulls out her air horn and blares at me. Freaks me out because I think she was crazy as HELL to do that and really an air horn? You showed me. Sheesh!
People.
