Disgusted and don't know what to do (long)

My cat Gatsby had an ongoing issue with his colon. We were able to deal with it at home, for the most part, but periodically he had to go in for more extensive enemas.

I took him to the vet last Monday. We've used this practice for several years. I always sort of felt they beefed up their bill and did some unnecessary tests, but I also got a good vibe from the main vet, so we kept going.

Anyway, to make a long story short, last Wednesday Gatsby was having a lot of trouble breathing and was still having issues pooping, which was odd since he'd just had a good enema. I took him to a different vet, recommended by my neighbor, who was unable to find his heartbeat when she examined him. She did an x-ray and his lungs were in very bad shape, either from cancer or a virus. Since he was 15 his prognosis was not good either way, and he was clearly suffering, so we put him to sleep.

I'm really disgusted now with the other practice. I just feel like the care we got was really shoddy. I'm also wondering if he got sick there on Monday. Today the other practice both called and emailed to ask about his progress and I don't even know what to say to them. I'm so upset because they ran all these tests, supposedly, which I paid for, and I never heard anything back from them about results until today.

I am so sorry for your loss... that is terrible. I'm really not sure what to do about the original vet - I'd be fuming. Where is this practice? (So i know not to go there when I have a cat again one day)

That sucks. I'm sorry. I hate bad vets and there are so many out there

Thank you. I live in Putnam County, I left LI several years ago. On a happier note, I was really happy with the new vet, who called me the day after and sent a nice card.

I do think I'm going to respond to the email and let them know I won't be returning, and have them send the records for my dog and my other cat to the new vet.
