Whats your favorite flavor?
I need to come up with a flavor combination for DD"s bday cake.. and need inspiration.. what are your favorite cake combinations?
So far, I have yellow cake with, raspberry and white chocolate ganache.

i like yellow cake or marble with canolli or chocolate cannoli filling and buttercream frosting.

Rainbow cookie!
I also love chocolate frosting and raspberry filling or strawberry filling. I made a caramel cake once and it was spectacular!

I usually try to pick cake flavors based on crowd pleasers and my own likes. I am personally not a fan of raspberry filling and I am not sure if all of my guests would be either so I would never pick that as a filling.
I like to stick with the basics like yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling or chocolate ganache/fudge filling. You could also do a chocolate cake with white chocolate ganache. Red Velvet and Cream Cheese is always a hit!

I usually pick flavors that are more crowd pleasing because I have no desire to eat a cake entirely by myself!
So, unless it's requested, I rarely make a red velvet cake for a party if it's the main dessert because you'd be surprised at how many people don't like red velvet. I stick to more classic combinations or ones that I know will be more popular.
Chocolate cake with mocha mousse
Chocolate cake with strawberry mousse filling and a vanilla swiss buttercream icing
Lemon cake with blueberries
Chocolate cake with strawberries
White/Yellow cake with chocolate buttercream
White/Yellow cake with whipped cream and strawberries
Funfetti cake with vanilla buttercream

Cookies n Cream! I take my favorite yellow cake recipe and crumble oreos in the batter. (I have WAY too much fun smashing those Oreos, too.) Then I have an icing recipe that tastes like the cream in an Oreo cookie.
Also Swiss Meringue Buttercream is a new favorite. It's a little less sweet than regular buttercream (though also more labor intensive to make, not hard, just more steps) so it's not too much on a cake.
ETA: Plus it pipes beautifully!
