New college grad - job search

Its been many many years since I graduated college and was recently asked for some advice by a soon to be grad. Where do new graduates look for jobs these days, other than the college career development office - is it all on line, on sites like Monster.com (if that's even still relelvant), on company websites directly, or something totally different?
Thanks!

Re: New college grad - job search

Networking is my #1 recommendation.

They should let everyone know they are looking for an entry-level position that could be a foot-in-the-door somewhere, especially somewhere to gain experience and advance.

My agency often advertises entry-level positions on Craigslist, but I can honestly say that a lot of candidates probably get passed over because of the volume of responses that comes into that site daily, especially because of nonsense responses.

Indeed.com is a website they can do a key word search that brings up all job-related sites.

I find a lot of younger people at my job get in through networking.....Its all about who you know. Besides that I would continuously check out the job boards, monster, careerbuilder, indeed

Re: New college grad - job search

I agree networking is important. They should get on LinkedIn and keep their profile up to date. Their school career center may be able to help, but I found that the one at my school was not.
They should also look into joining societies in the area of their major. A lot of times these groups will have online job boards.
In addition to Monster and Career builder, they can also look for job boards in their field. For instance, I am in the science field and used newscientist.com, biospace.com, etc.
