Poor Marty has fleas.
So my poor Marty has fleas. Found them on him the other night. I was remiss in applying the frontline (since Aug.) so stupid. Anyway, applied the night I found them. Washed bedding, vaccuming daily. Bought a flea comb today. Pulled 2 off him. Ordered the Victor Flea Trap today too. He will go to the groomer on Monday and get a flea bath with his regular groom. Anything else??? I have 2 small kids so the bomb is not an option.

Re: Poor Marty has fleas.
don't know if this works but I've read to put a flea collar in your vacuum bag
also use a flea comb every time he goes out
i can't believe they are still around--it snowed!

Re: Poor Marty has fleas.
Frontline, vacuum, flea comb then dip comb in sudsy water made with dawn dish detergent to drown ant caught fleas. You will be fine soon once frontline stops the cycle.

Re: Poor Marty has fleas.
I have the same problem right now, but we had them on flea preventative throughout.
Look into Capstar. It's a pill that kills all the fleas on them. I've been vacuuming, and the Victor trap didn't get anything. We bathed them both 3 hours after giving Capstar and all the fleas on them were dead.
I'm still finding flea eggs or larvae on surfaces so vacuuming daily is a must but I will be giving another round of Capstar weekly until there are no more (to interrupt the life cycle of egg - larvae - adult - egg-laying adult - egg - etc.)
We also threw out their old beds. We had clean spares anyway. In addition, if you can lay down salt on your carpet, it also kills flea eggs. Leave it overnight and then vacuum.
That's a last resort for me because I have Labs and they will lick the carpet for months if they smell one grain of salt left in it.

Re: Poor Marty has fleas.
Think we might have gotten them all!!! Marty went to the groomer today. Had a flea bath with his regular groom. They didn't find a thing on him, not even during the bath. Still going to put the traps down (we ordered online. they're coming tomorrow.) And continue to vacuum every day. I know the eggs, etc can still hatch.

Poor Marty has fleas.
The cycle could take a month or more to break. You have to treat the animal and keep with the cleaning. Until you get all the eggs etc it will take some time.

Poor Marty has fleas.
You have to treat your whole house! Vacuum, spray and vacuum again! Good luck

Re: Poor Marty has fleas.- UPDATE
So, a month in, and we still have them. We are flea free for a few days, then WHAMMO I find one or two. I switched meds to Vectra 3D. We vacuum every single day. I spray the natural flea and tick spray. I don't know what to do anymore. My DH refuses to get an exterminator, unless we get rid of the dog. I am at my wits end.

Re: Poor Marty has fleas.
I dont understand what your DH thinks gettign rid of the dog will accomplish? You can and still will have a flea infestation even if you dont have the dog. They will just bite the humans in desperation.
Where does your dog go when outside? Are you near wooded areas? Do random animals go through your yard? Do you walk your dog in tall grass or areas where loads of animals go?

Re: Poor Marty has fleas.
We would never really get rid of him, we are just frustrated. We don't live in a wooded area, but there are many wild animals that are nearby. Hoping we will break the cycle within the next month or so. I'm vigilant with combing him and vaccuming. Its just upsetting.

I know. I really do. That's personally why even though I love my dogs to death, and worry about the safety of topicals like Frontline, I just have to take that chance b/c we have found fleas on them before and I know how terrible an infestation can get.
Keep doing what you are doing. I assure you it will work but could take a few months. BTW, we have random animals pass through our yard and my dog brought in fleas 2 times last year. but they were dying when we found them and i did nothing, yet never got an infestation. So I believe Frontline definitely works. I def think it was all the bunnies coming through our yard. This past year, we put up a fence and no more bunnies, and coincidentally, no fleas found this year either.

Re: Poor Marty has fleas.
Thanks for the reassurance. We have a TON of bunnies in our yard. You've talked me off the ledge a little. (Pms was not helping ha!) Haven't found another flea since the other night. Here's hoping!

Also keep in mind...fleas will die with the first frost. They do die with freezign temperatures. So we are approaching that season. They will not die in your home based on the temp, but if your dog keeps picking them up in your yard daily, that should stop.
See thats my point! Maybe your home isn't infested, maybe your yard is. I have even SEEN the bunnies scratching. I swear to you since we put up our fence, no more bunnies. That was a year ago that we put the fence up.

That's great news!Keep in mind, it has finally been colder out so if the problem was your yard and animals passing through with fleas, this could be why!
Either way, it's great news!
