Renting a house - fire island

I want to start a family tradition of staying on fire island in the summer. Ideally I want to stay in Davis Park, but am open to other areas.

Does anyone on here own a house and rent it out? Or has anyone had success renting a house from a specific site? What is the average cost per week?

I don't have any experience renting a house on FI, but have visited friends there who have rented houses there, and just from what they're saying, this year will probably very different from any previous year because of so many houses being destroyed by Sandy. Just something to keep in mind.

My in laws have a house in Davis. Many houses around them were destroyed. They've rented it out in the last using homeaway. Not sure how the rentals will be this summer. There was a TON of damage

We rented a house at Davis Park last summer and I heard from the owner and her house survived and she is starting to take rentals for this coming season. It was a short walk to the ocean and it had 3 bedrooms, outside shower (loved !) and a bathroom, full kitchen, and everything you needed - beach chairs, sand toys, beach towels, sheets.... bbq, etc. It was reasonable too.
