I've been benched...
Went to the doctor today (finally) for my knee and hip pain. I have 2 knee syndromes - IT band syndrome and runner's knee - which are fairly common, and I also have a tear in my hip. I start PT next week, I've been benched from ALL lower body work until at least 2 weeks into my 2x/week PT, or later if my PT decides. After that I can try spinning and maybe the elliptical, but I can't run or do anything high impact at least until my follow up doctor's appointment in a month. I'm sad. I love cardio. I worked hard to get my fitness level up to where it is now.
In the meantime, any suggestions for GOOD, intense arms/abs/upper body workouts?

Re: I've been benched...
My DH tore his Achilles last year and he LIVED on that arm bike thing at the gym. After that he got into spinning, since he couldn't run and he managed to stay in great shape. I have back issues, so I try to spin instead of run whenever I can. Spinning burns a lot of calories and is great cardio if you take a hard class!
Sorry about your injuries!

Re: I've been benched...
I'm so sorry!! I know how hard it is. I cried so much when I first hurt my knee.
The best workout I've found that focuses on your upper body while giving a great cardio workout is boxing. I took a class 2x a week and fell in love with it. It's such a great workout.

Re: I've been benched...
I'm so sorry! I had my first real injuries thus year (stress fracture and bursitis) and it was hard to cut back. The rest will help though. I ran a 10k on the stress fracture and it set me back longer.

Re: I've been benched...
Hope your tear is asymptomatic. I had the same thing in 2011 and had to have surgery. Its the worst.

Thanks, the doctor said 50/50 now for surgery. We'll see how PT goes. I've been in quite a bit of pain for the last little while so unfortunately I fear that doesn't bode well, but I'm remaining hopeful.

Ugh! That sucks so much. I'm sorry! I don't have any good recommendations, but I hope you feel better soon! Can you row? I know that technically uses your legs a little, but it's mostly arms...

Re: I've been benched...
Oh no! I know how much this sucks...but glad you finally got it checked.
I don't have much of an answer, when I got benched from Cardio I gave it all up and now am having a hard time getting back into.
Hope the PT works!
