Moms of 2 (or more)
I am due with #2 in a couple of weeks and we recently moved DD (17 mo) into her new room. For the past 2 weeks, she's been waking up in the middle of the night and needs to be rocked back to sleep. I now need to CIO....but I was wondering, did your DC#1's sleep patterns change when #2 came - am I going to have to CIO again after the baby is born?

Her sleep patterns didn't change when the baby came, but we also didn't make any changes to her life at all a few months before or after the baby. Once we moved her to her big girl bed (when DD2 was about 3 months old) she did great at first, but then had some issues a month later. I think any change to their nighttime routine could throw things off. It may not have anything to do with another sibling.

DS was born when she was 2.4. We moved her to her "big girl bed" about a month and a half before. Didn't have any issues with her schedule or her sleeping habits.

Maybe she is just feeling the energy around the second one coming, I would let her be and see if she adjusts back, With us, we moved the second child into her room with her at about 6 months , her sleep patterns havent changed..

Re: Moms of 2 (or more)
I think you did the right thing by moving her before your DC comes. I did the same thing (at around the same age). I even moved her into a "big girl" bed. She always loved more independence, so she had no problems with the new bed. I think it was good to do it before the baby went into her old crib (I even left the baby in the basinett for the first few months so that by the time she was ready for the crib, DD#1 didn't associate the crib as "hers"). I do recall having to do a little CIO, though. After a few nights she was fine. Do it now so you don't have 2 crying babies at the same time. Hang in there!

No tips, but we are in the same boat!! We moved our 21 month old DD last month and we had a few nights of tears. We are still having nights that aren't great, where she will wake up and need us to comfort her back to sleep. I am praying that this works itself out.

Re: Moms of 2 (or more)
Thanks everyone! It does make me feel better when others are/were in my same boat! DH is pushing for CIO this weekend - I am soooo not ready! We did it around 12 months and it took about 4 days for her to just go to sleep and then she would put herself back to sleep in the middle of the night, but she is so verbal now and learned how to scream and all that fun stuff. Wish us luck!
