Q about introducing egg
My ped told me to hard boil an egg, and add the yolk to cereal for DS to try. To me that sounds so nasty! How have you introduced egg yolk to your DC? TIA

Re: Q about introducing egg
Yes you introduce the yolk first. The egg white is the part that some are allergic to. You just mash up the yolk. I mixed it in formula. It wasn't dry so it was ok.

Q about introducing egg
We did that but added the yolk to applesauce. Babies don't care about mixing stuff haha!

I just made her a scrambled egg around 6-7 months, she ate it, loved it, and had no issues.

For those that gave the whole egg, what made you do so? Was it because your DC didn't have any other food allergies so you figured it was ok? I would like to give the whole egg now, but the pediatrician made me nervous!

My ped is pretty laid back in general so I guess that makes a difference. But also, we have no history of food allergies on either side so I just didn't really worry too much about trying new things. I figured with anything we fed her, worst case scenario was she would have a reaction so I kept Benadryl on me, used my judgment, and hoped for the best.
Do what you're comfortable with. Every ped differs in their opinion and guidelines are just that, guidelines. They aren't law and they are always changing anyway. You know your baby best, make an informed decision that you feel is best for him/her.

IMO if they are allergic I was not going to spend my time separating eggs and only giving them the other part. Plus there were eggs in other thing he had already had so I really saw no point in separating the yolk and white. My Ped didn't care. He recommends no eggs til 1 year and I did this by 9 mons. Go with your gut.

Re: Q about introducing egg
I never had any food allergies. DH never had any food allergies. DD, though, is allergic to egg. This is how we found out:
We did as your ped said and gave her just the yolk for 3 days. She had no reaction. Day 4, we gave her a bit of a waffle that had a whole egg baked in it. No reaction. Day 5, I scrambled up a whole egg for her and BAM! Her face and tongue swelled up. It was super scary. Allergy was confirmed by an allergist a few months later.
The reason you do this is that kids who are allergic to egg are much more likely to be allergic to the egg white than the egg yolk. So you give the yolk for 3 days because it's the safer of the 2 parts. However you choose to do it, please start slowly. I'm so lucky that DD had a reaction to the egg after only a couple of bites instead of after having eaten the whole thing, or it could have gone very badly (I didn't have an Epi-Pen or Benadryl on hand, like we always do now).

Re: Q about introducing egg
We did the yolk first as well. I scrambled it with a little milk. She didnt really like it and honestly I thought it tasted gross. When I thought about it I realized she def. had whole eggs in certain foods without me thinking about it. Then I just gave her a whole egg and now she loves it.
