we got quotes from both, and went elsewhere.
I am very happy with our cabinet installers, and cabinet brand...they dont sell it at either of those stores.
We have Holiday Kitchen Cabinets and we had MDM trim install them.

Ditto! We had custom cabinets made at Kitchen Depot in Hauppauge and then had them installed by an independent contractor.
I HIGHLY recommend both of them! Here's the contact info (just in case you're interested:
Kitchen Depot 115 Commerce Dr Hauppauge, NY 11788 (631) 643-8020
Edited because I no longer recommend the contractor that installed the cabinets

The price will vary based upon the size of your kitchen. We got estimates from three or four places, and they all were about the same price for install (about $3k for our kitchen).

I used to work at HD as a kitchen designer. Usually the install was 1.5 to 2 times the cost of the kitchen. So if you spent 10grand on your kitchen, the install cost would be around 15.

Re: Kitchen Installation Cost? (lowes vs home depot)
Hanging kitchen cabinets is really not that difficult to do.
We took down all our old cabinets, ripped out the old countertop, and installed new Kraftmaid cabinets ourselves. We didn't even have to replace the sheetrock.
The only thing we didn't install was the countertop, but when you get quoted for decent countertop (like from Consumers), it usually includes installation anyways.
We saved a ton of cash doing the kitchen ourselves. And it looks really good too!

u don't understand..my DH is really really really not handy. he wanted to hire someone to take apart a piece of furniture that was attached to the wall so we can use that room for DS's room. i have to convinced him to let my bro/dad do it for free. FIL is the same way..always want to hire someone to do the simplest job. DH took after him while i love to put things together. but i think this might be too big for me

Then I would look for a handyman on Craigslist that works by the day. You should be able to find somebody that charges $150-200 a day and let him do his thing. You will still save a lot of money compared to paying a set price for installation.

We did the same thing - we bought our house knowing the kitchen would need to be replaced. However, once we started really investigating what needed to be done, turns out the entire thing needs to be gutted, not just cosmetic work to replace the materials. We're not expanding the walls, but things like existing soffits are being taken out, as well as floor replaced etc. the cost really depends on how much labor is needed - the materials can vary on where you go also. In general however, i've seen that HD is not as cheap as you'd assume
We priced out with HD and Lowes, and with another contractor for the labor. Both HD and Lowes were expensive and they didn't do nearly as thorough of an examination of the room and what needed to be done as the private contractor did, which leaves me to believe that there would definitely have been unforseen 'additional' costs that would have popped up when the job was in progress. Our contractor took the time to poke a hole in the soffets to make sure there was nothing in them that would prevent their removal, he went into the basement and checked out the pipes to see if he'd have to move anything.. in general he was way more thorough and came in less expensive than HD. Just something to think about as it might not be just cosmetic work that you need done.
good luck! yes, its a PITA, but well worth it in the end. we don't have a new kitchen yet, but i'm hoping by end of summer to have it done.
