Jogging/Running Question
I am a good walker, and I try to walk a lot. I usually stay under 5 miles if I go for my walks.
I would like to start jogging and running. As stupid as this might sound....where do I begin?
For the runners out there, how did you start out? Any set time limits, routes? Morning/Night?

Re: Jogging/Running Question
I started running track when I was in grade school but I remember when I decided to continue running as an adult and to go more for distance and hobby rather than sport. I started running for as long as I could without stopping. I had no "real" goals in my mind but I knew I wanted to push myself. When I felt like I had to stop, I would and walk a little and then start running again until I felt I needed to stop again and I would do this until I knew I ran a decent distance. It eventually got easier to run for longer and longer.
I also read an article in Women's Health about a woman who never ran but decided she wanted to become a runner. She made small goals in her head, for example...today I am going to run to the end of the block without stopping and so she did. She would do that distance and every couple of days she would increase her distance goal without stopping and she found it worked. Maybe something like that would be good for you, set small goals until you get to where you are comfortable. HTH
**edited to add, I have never been a morning runner. I have always wanted to be as I would love to start off my day with a good run but I can't. I usually run on my lunch break or right after work. It really just depends on what you prefer.

Re: Jogging/Running Question
I got into running only about 7 years ago & I used to always love exercise, but told everyone I DON'T RUN!
Now, I run...I'm not the fastest or longest, but I love it & I'm up to 6 miles.
I remember my first day....I had a usual walking route of 5 miles & one day I decided I would run. I did what I could, stopped when needed, & restarted again. Once I learned to control my breath it because much easier. There was 1 point of my run with a killer hill, I used to have to walk it up, my goal was to eventually run the entire thing & I eventually did. Just set little goals. Distance, speed, etc.

Yes, definitely! I was a total couch potato in June and started C25K. It has totally changed my life. Definitely recommended! Since you're not a couch potato and already walking, you can maybe just build it in as part of your walks for now, and eventually build up to running those 5 miles instead of walking them!
