Would you do this?

I found a dress for DD for her baptism, it is really nice but does not have the Peter Pan collar that I really want. the godmother is paying for the dress which will run a little over $100.00. I can not find another dress. To have a Peter Pan collar put on by a tailor would cost $50-$60.00. I am not expecting the godmother to pay for the collar. Would you pay for it yourself to have it added to the dress or just leave the dress alone?

I dont know if I'd pay that much for a dress she was only going to wear once but if you reeeallyyy have your heart set on it, i would just tell the godmother the original price of the dress and pay for the collar/tailoring myself. Imo, i wouldnt ask/expect/let someone else pay for that - its too much.

I was not expecting the godmother to pay for the collar. I will edit this in my post.

In my opinion, if it costs $100..it better be exactly what I want. So, no..I wouldn't get the dress..I would keep looking for the one that has the collar, and does not need to be added.

Re: Would you do this?

No, I wouldn't. But I also wouldn't care that much about a collar, nor would I spend that much on a gown. If it's important to you, then pay for the collar on your own.

I would probably look around for a dress that had that collar if that's what you want. If you have it put on after it may not look right.

I wouldn't do it.

I'd leave it as is or keep looking for a dress. As a pp said, it may not look right on the style of dress. In addition, the fabrics may not match.

Re: Would you do this?

I'm in the minority here but I'd do it. My sister (DDs godmother) paid about $200 for her dress so I don't think $160 for exactly what you want is really that bad.

Re: Would you do this?

I would. But then again, my DDs dress cost much more than your dress and collar combined.

I got the dress, collar might even go for $40.ooo - will not ruin the look because I have seem the style with a collar but not the material and embroidery I wanted. I have seem tons of dresses that go for $189.00 and up ... too much, even though I am not paying for it

I have got to know... Is paying for the dress a LI thing? I have never heard of this until I moved here and I have lived in several parts of the country.

To answer your original question, I would just leave the dress alone. DD will only be in it for a short time and you probably won't even notice it at the time.

Christening dresses are very expensive the fact you found one for $100 isgreat! Clearly im in the minority here but fashion and having a look in mind is very important to me to be honest. When i have a look im trying to achieve ill do everything i can to find it.

I say do it if its something you want and you have the 50 to spend. My dd christening dress and accessories was 300 so 100 sounds like a score!

Yes its 1 day but thats the point. Its once in a lifetime. Its your dd why not get what you want. Its only an extra 50 not like its another 100-200 ya know?

Only if your heart is really really set on that collar. If $ 50 is gong to make you happy, go for it.

Re: Would you do this?

Yes I would absolutely do it. A baptism is a once in a lifetime like a wedding. And a baptism gown is an heirloom that can be passed down for generations. I spent way more than $100 on my DD's gown - it was GORGEOUS and I never would regret it. That said, I told the godmother that I would never expect her to pay for my choice because it was so expensive.

I felt exactly the same as this. However I paid for DS outfit. His godmother offered to pay but it never happened which was 100000% fine with me.

I say if it's what you want you should do it.
