Garden Midwifery - anyone?
I live in plainview, but with my DS I went to the Stony Brook Midwives and delivered at SB Hospital. I loved all the midwives and the hospital and had a wonderful experience.
That being said, the commute to every appointment really stinks. I was pregnant this past year but had a D&C in Dec at 12 weeks due to a mmc. The few appts I had at SB got me thinking that maybe i should switch to a closer practice.
So, i looked into closer practices and was intrigued that Garden OB/GYN has a midwifery practice. There website says there are 3 midwives - how do only 3 people cover 24/7 for office visits and people in labor?? Anyone have any experience good or bad with them.
We are currently TTC #2 again and I want to be prepared if i want to switch practices early. I feel bad only switching for convenience, but a 45 min - 1 hr trip each way for every appt sucks, especially with a 19 month old now.
So... please gimme feedback on Garden Midwifery. Do the midwives only deliver at Plainview Hospital? And only see patients in plainview office? Thanks for any advice/help!!

Re: Garden Midwifery - anyone?
I've never heard of Garden Midwifery?
Garden City OB/GYN has a midwife/ob combo. Their office is in Garden City and deliver in Winthrop.
There's a list of every midwife on LI if you click on the link on the bottom of the article. midwives
FWIW, I loved the SB Midwives. I traveled from central Nassau to their Bohemia office, and if I have another child, it'll be with them. The care, and SB Hospital, were worth the drive.

Garden Midwifery
It's part of Garden OB/GYN which has like 6 offices.
With Garden City OB/GYN... I assume you cannot ensure that the midwife delivers you and it's just whomever is on call??
I was hoping to find a new midwifery practice that was also part of a larger OBGYN practice so that if/when issues arise, it's not like transferring practices.

I delivered with Melanie @ Garden City OBGYN. She is the midwife and handles all births. The only exception would be if she is in vaca. I think she told me that she has even delivered two laboring women at the same time (obviously births were not simultaneous).
There are docs there too, but you don't see them- they just act as her dr backup.
She was fantastic, and I would rec her to anyone. FM if you have more ques.

yeah... I never heard of Garden Midwifery. It's Garden City OB/GYN that has a great reputation, and I've heard nothing but amazing things about Melanie Sumersille so I would check them out.

Agreed. I was a patient of Melanie's and liked her a lot. She delivers all her patient's babies unless they need an emergency c-section. It's not like the SB Midwives where you get whoever happens to be working that day. Definitely worth looking into.

Re: Garden Midwifery - anyone?
I am using Melanie Sumersille in Garden City for the second time with DS. She is amazing and her MD back up is great.... Dr Plancher. They deliver at Winthrop. If you have an question please FM. I also know of the practice Garden Midwifery which is part of a large practice and it's nothing like SB midwives
