The 15 year old boy from Seaford who died on a class trip...
His mother is a good friend and coworker of my sister. They lost their house during Hurricane Sandy and her husband (the boys father) was diagnosed with cancer. The story was on the news. He went to California on a band trip with his class, was feeling sick, went to the ER and was released . He went into cardiac arrest a short while later and died, without his family. This absolutely breaks my heart. The mother is the only one able to financially support the family. There was a donation page set up. Any amount of money can make a difference. Thank you for anything you are able to give.

Many , many prayers for his family
I teach in the district. Please correct the following in your post, he did not die on a bus. He died at the Ronald Reagan Center of the UCLA Medical Center. The last leg of the trip, before their return trip to the airport, was to visit the Santa Monica Pier. He didn't think he was well enough to go back on the plane, was physically and legally released to a family friend in the area, as they were waiting for the friend to pick him up he got worse, an ambulance was called. He passed away at the hospital a few hours later .
There are several memorials and fundraisers planned within the SD for the family So many of his classmates are shell shocked. They have endured so much this year. And this family's story is tragic on so many levels

I was shaken by this when I first saw it.
And it angered me too that Newsday posted the school sign about saying no to drugs before they went into the story.
Talk about misleading!

Do you know the person doing the fundraising in the link? It doesn't state the relation of the fundraiser to the young boy and family, unless I overlooked it?

From what I heard Mr. Dolan is the mother's brother. I do not have confirmation of that. I only read about it on patch.com. I was planning on getting confirmation from SD administration. The article states the site has raised over $6K. Any funds above and beyond burial and medical expenses will go to the family. The father has Stage 4 cancer, is not well and they are still displaced from Sandy. Their home in Seaford is not livable as a result of the damage.

I don't. This is the link my sister had posted on her facebook. She got the link from her coworkers

I corrected it, thanks. But my sister had heard he went into cardiac arrest on the bus. I thought she heard it from the boys mother - maybe not. There were probably so many phone calls going on.
My sister said that people had been writing in to the local news stations to help the family. I told her to look into submitting an application the Extreme Home Makeover. They really need a new home. My sister said she is constantly on the phone with FEMA fighting with them for assistance. I just can't imagine what this poor family is going through.

Is this link 100% legit and will the family get the money? I live locally as well and heard about this family and would love to help, but want to make sure it goes to the right place either here or waiting for another fundraiser.

I am assuming it is legit. I asked my sister this morning and she said the page was started by Joseph Tutaj's uncle. This is the link that is being passed around at her job (She works with Joseph's mom) I really don't know any more than that, I'm sorry.
I have always wondered with these websites, how is the money actually given?
