Where to go within a 3 hour drive?
DH and I want to take a weekend trip somewhere with DH who is 5 months old. We are looking to rent a cabin, cottage, house. We would like something on a lake, with good hiking, maybe a nearby beach or park. Any suggestions???

Lake George is amazing but is about 4hrs w/o traffic I think. Also there is Cape May and the Berkshires and Rhode Island which I think are all about an hour closer. I've also heard raves on the boards about Mohonk Mountain.

I was also going to suggest Lake George or what about the Poconos?
you can also try to find a bed and breakfast in the tri-state area. I know there are some in Mystic, CT.

I'd recommend Shelter Island - we've been going for a few years and started renting one of the cottages for the weekend. It's very family friendly - pool, the beach, etc.
