Slipped Disc--Surgery

Our 4 1/2 year old "puppy" is suffering from a slipped disc that has left him completely stationary. It's heart breaking. He can't even go outside to "make" so we have pads set up and keep changing them.

The vet wants us to continue with the meds through the weekend and make a call regarding surgery on Monday. My gut is telling me surgery is the solution because of his worsening condition. We don't know what to do. The cost will be between 8 and 10k for the surgery, and there is no guarantee this won't happen again. He is 120 lbs. and I am worried about after care.

I am looking to hear from anyone who has gone through something similar. How was recovery? Anyone else that can weigh in would be much appreciated.

I have not gone through that type of surgery-just 2acl surgeries--recovery is not fun but in my case very doable!
where/with whom are you looking to have the surgery done w/--which vet?

My dog was only 5 when she had a slipped disc in her back! She walks now completely on her own!!! We decided to try acupuncture before paying 10,000 for a surgery that didn't work and she was walking again in no time!! let me know if you want the holistic vets name!

i was going to suggest acupuncture too-i know dr. wen is holistic-located eastern LI and i think there is a vet in Huntington that is holistic

how do they know that it is a slipped disc?
Im sorry i dont have a good ending to what they said was a slipped disc in my 4 1/2 yo dog.
