I'm 35 weeks, and the baby is weighing 6 1/2 pounds...

hey girls, I'm a little worried. I just came back from my obgyn and she told me the baby is 6 1/2 lbs, now what's worrying me is that I'm 35 weeks, and they said that if the baby continues to grow at the rate he is, I might need to get induced =( has this happened to any of u?

My coworker is 42 and expecting her first. She's 37 weeks and the baby is in like the 10th percentile. The DR's are doing a C-section on Friday. As long as they are monitoring it, they will deem what's best for the baby's safety.

Re: I'm 35 weeks, and the baby is weighing 6 1/2 pounds...

At my 32 week sono the baby weighed 5lbs. This is my 3rd and the doctor was not worried. I am having a c/s though so that could be why....

With my 2nd at 35 weeks he weighed 9.13lbs. They have me do an amnio to check for lung maturity and then took him at 37 weeks. He weighed 10lbs.

I don't think 6lbs at 35 weeks sounds that bad but I'm sure your doctors will do what is best for the baby. Chat Icon Chat Icon

The weight is just an estimate and 6.5lb does not seem that bad. take it day by day like OP said Dr will decide whats best.
At end of my pregnancy Dr guessed my boy was 8lbs but he was born at 9 14lbs 22 inches. I think you will be fine..good luck!!

Those weights are never right...don't let them force you to be induced unless medically necessary. Lots of women birth big babies w/out being induced...and like I said, those weights are approx and not a good indicator of what size the baby will actually be.

The number may be off a little. I don't think for 35 weeks that is that bad. I got my LO weighed today... I am 33 weeks and she is 4 pounds 14 oz. The dr. said she isn't worried so I'm not. When my son was born they said he was over 8 pounds and then he was 7 pounds 12 oz... Hang in there. If you do need a c-section then its for the baby and your safety and it will be ok.

I'm 38 weeks now, but at 35 he was measuring 6 lbs, 8 oz. They said that the machines aren't always accurate, and he was more likely to be 6 lbs, but still! I had 5 more weeks to go and they say they gain about .5 lb a week! I was never told that I would be induced though (unless I get to be a week after my due date). I did hear that bigger babies are actually easier to get out... maybe due to gravity pulling them out? haha idk! But I'm getting nervous because I'm a first time mom and me and my bf were both 7lb babies. He also apparently has a long femur and in the 70th percentile :/. They said not to worry too much, because only once they hit 90th is when they start to get concerned. but gl!

I was told at 35 weeks that baby weighed 6 1/2 pounds also. When I was 39 weeks, I was told baby was weighing 8 1/2 pounds. The day I was being induced (for other non weight-related reasons) at 39w3d, doctor felt my stomach and said "this baby is definitely close to 9 pounds. I don't know if you're going to be able to push her out, but we'll try."

Baby was born after just 40 minutes of pushing weighing just 7lbs 9 oz... its not an exact science and in my case, they were very wrong

I wouldnt worry, those thing can be WAY off and its still too early. Also, you can decline being induced...IT IS YOUR CALL. I am under 5' tall, had BIG babies all just mere ounces away from 9lbs and delivered them all just fine, even one past their due date. Drs wanted to induce, but I declined.

My estimates were all so wrong. at 36 weeks DS was supposedly measuring 7 lbs. At 38 weeks, he was a little over 8lbs.
2 weeks later at birth he was 7 lbs 10 oz. Don't put all your faith in their esitmates.

I'm almost 38 weeks and he weighs 6lbs 10oz (they say)
But they're just estimates. They told us the other day "give or take a whole pound"...so you really never know...

I've heard that the measurments are off so don't worry. I'm 35 weeks and she is weighing in at 5lb 9oz. which is average as of now.

My friend was just talked into an induction because her baby was "already 9 lbs" at 39 weeks. The baby was born today and weighed 7 lbs. I wouldn't, and don't put too much stock in those growth sons.

I wouldn't worry...the numbers aren't accurate. At 39 weeks I was told my lo was 8lb 14oz. She arrived 2 weeks later and was only 8lb 5oz. They will continue to monitor you and do what they feel is best.

Re: I'm 35 weeks, and the baby is weighing 6 1/2 pounds...

I had a sono at 35wks with my second DD and she measured almost 7lbs. I was gestational diabetic (well controlled however) and they were insisting I be induced @39wks before the baby went over 9lbs. I wound up going into labor at 38wks and having a 6lb 14oz baby. Almost an entire lb lighter then my first it took 3 pushes to get her out!

It happened to me, my sister and DHs sister and cousins.

The estimated weight was way off for all of us.

Re: I'm 35 weeks, and the baby is weighing 6 1/2 pounds...

Me. I was induced with all of my kids around 1 week early.

1 week 9lbs 6.5oz
13 days 8lbs 12oz
1 week 8lbs 2 oz

I was lucky because being induced worked for me.

They are going to do another sono at 39 weeks. But I am planning on going in for another induction 1 week early. At almost 36 weeks they said the baby was 6lbs and I was measuring 1 week ahead... so I figure by the time I go in for induction the baby will be around 8lbs.

They usually tell you give or take 1lb but there are alot of variable.
