Contractor Mistake
Hi-
I just want to get some thoughts. I am having my bathroom on the main level of my house redone. I selected tiles and purchased three individual ones so there would be no mistakes with the contractor. I chose one tile for the shower, another for the walls and a third for the floor. The one for the shower was a stone that was rough and that is what I wanted in the shower. I selected the same tiles for the floor and walls, just different sizes. The contractor went to the store to buy the correct amount of tiles. Today I went into the bathroom to talk to the contractor and realized he used the wrong tiles on the walls and he completed all the walls already. There are two tiles in the store with the same name and one is stone and the other is a different kind. It is a small bathroom. He sort of realized and I showed him the receipt for the samples I bought and he said he made a mistake.
So now I don't know what to do. He said it is his mistake and he will re-do it. My nature is I feel bad and wouldn't want him to have to re-do it. But also I am not so sure I like the ones he used. He said he would credit us $300, but to me when I am getting an entire bathroom redone what is 300.
Any thougts or anyone ever been in this situation?
Thanks!

Re: Contractor Mistake
i would have him redo it..you shouldn't have to live with something you don't love when it was his mistake

Contractor Mistake
I would absolutely have him re-do it. It sounds like you were clear and took steps to ensure there is no confusion, sounds like it got lost somewhere between contractor and tile guy. I wouldn't feel bad, it's not like you are asking for something unreasonable. And applause to him for offering to fix it at no charge that without you asking not all contractors would offer that immediately, or would try and make it seem like it was a miscommunication on your part.

i agree that you should have him redo it.
i'm a little confused about him crediting you $300 ... is he just taking money off the cost because of the mistake he made, or is that for the tiles he purchased by accident? Either way, $300 is $300 so enjoy that little discount, i guess

Re: Contractor Mistake
I would have him redo it, I tend to feel bad as well however, it was his mistake and you are paying for it so it should be done right.

Contractor Mistake
That almost happened to us. Dh looked at the tile that was delivered and caught it before it happened. We almost got beige tiles instead of the grey ones we ordered. Have him redo it and take the credit. If you don't and you are anything like me you will look at the bathroom in disgust if its not redone.

I'd have him redo it. You will have those tiles for a LONG time and you will be reminded when you look at them, clean them, etc. that they weren't the ones you picked.

I think he would give the credit if she were to keep the tiles.....
I'd have him redo it, its too big a thing stylistically to just say, its fine.
