Insignia Steak & Sushi, Smithown - reviews?
Has anyone been there? Your thoughts?
DH is going to dinner with some friends this weekend and one of them wants to go here. ever heard of it. Just looking for some feedback.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews but mostly that it's not worth the price. I haven't gone though.

VERY pricey, but fantastic IMO. DH and I have been there twice now and he is admittedly a steak snob... he loves it. We get the porterhouse for two. He has also had a sushi appetizer both times, which he really likes too. Again, it is an expensive meal, but sooo good!

On the dining out board, there was a discussion where the reviews were really mixed on it. Have heard the service stinks.

I thought the food was good. It is definitely more of a scene, and yes very loud.
I checked the box and probably wont go back. I prefer Tellers, food is sooo good.

I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but out of everyone I have asked, the people who think it's amazing don't typically go out to *real* steakhouses, and the people who do frequent actual steakhouses think it's over-priced and over-rated.
I haven't actually gone there, and don't plan to, based on reviews.
Have you checked out yelp.com?

I agree. I go to a lot of steakhouses with work - in nyc and LI - and I thought this place was WAY overrated and more of a "look at me" kind of place.
I though the service was awful for the price and the food was ok but not great and nothing compared to some real steakhouses.
It's like a wanna be trendy place for LI

We went there Valentine's weekend and it was horrible. We had Sushi , which was ok, I had a filet Min. which was tough and chewy, Sean had Shrimp and Steak. The shrimp was tasteless and the Steak again was tough with no seasoning. I would definitely not reccommend going there. From what I understand it was phenomenal when it first opened but now has just gone down hill quick. And fo rthe amount of money you're spending there , I would go to Tellers or Prime.

We had a different experience than those above.
The service was outstanding. The food was awesome. We thought the steak was terrific. Loved the ambience and they had a fantastic wine selection. They also had really good bar drinks. We go to steakhouses all the time and we thought this ranked pretty high. However, it is expensive. I don't know that it would be our first choice for the price but we would definitely go back. I love the bar area as well.
