Those who are gluten sensitive, how were you DXed?
I'm curious to see if I might benefit from a gluten free diet.

Those who are gluten sensitive, how were you DXed?
My doctor and allergist told me the only true way to find out was to go off gluten completely for 2-3 months and to then reintroduce it into my diet. I stopped eating gluten for 8 weeks then reintroduced it into my diet...in the middle of the meal I got very sick to my stomach and spent the next few hours dealing with it--I called my doctor to let him know and he told me that it was what he thought would happen. I was diagnosed with IBS at 24 but since I stopped eating gluten I rarely have symptoms of IBS. I think it was the gluten all along.

Re: Those who are gluten sensitive, how were you DXed?
I was DX back in 2006 with IBS & tortuous bowels.
This was before all the gluten talk. I have since changed my lifestyle/nutrition & am much better. But I do have a digestive inconsistency. So I'm wondering if its worth trying.

I would say it's worth trying if you are eating healthier and still having issues
it's not hard once you get the hang of it
gluten is inflamtory to most people

Re: Those who are gluten sensitive, how were you DXed?
To my standards I eat healthy the majority of the time. Ok I occasionally grab a few pretzels, or baked chips. But overall I snack on fruits, veggies, etc. Even switched to almond milk.
I overall don't have the "flareups" I used to have, which made me finally go to a GI dr in 2005.
BUT I do get so bloated at time & wonder if some of it is gluten related.
It's worth a try. Now to educate myself on what I can eat & need to eliminate from my diet. I tropically eat the same stuff on a regular basis, so I'm afraid it'll mean I have to give up some stuff I like.

There are some great gluten free products on the market--I also just joined gfreely. It is a sample box that sends new gluten free products to try every month.

Re: Those who are gluten sensitive, how were you DXed?
I was diagnosed years ago via blood test.
My son was just tested by his allergist with a blood test as well.
