Baby #2 - BTDT

took a pregnancy test this morning that was positive! It wasn't planned so a big surprise. I have a DS that is just over 1 y/o. I feel a little guilty and sad Chat Icon He gets all of our attention right now and so much love. I am so excited for another baby but at the same time wonder if this is too soon and how it will affect DS? Mixed emotions just hoping this is normal to feel this way!

I don't have two yet, but just wanted to say congrats!!!!!

We will be trying for number two a few months after dd turns 1, so I don't think it's too early. Think of how close they can be growing up!!

Re: Baby #2 - BTDT

First off congrats!

I got pregnant with ds2 when my first was under a year old. My boys are 2 1/2 and 1 and are already best friends. I think it is really up to us as parents to make it a smooth transition. My oldest is very rarely jealous of my little one because I don't favor one over the other. Neither of my boys has ever lacked attention or love. As soon as we arrived home with the baby my toddler wanted to "help" and I included him with whatever he wanted to be included in. If you are constantly saying "no I have to the baby yada yada yada" there will be jealously. It is in my opinion really all about that smooth transition.

Baby #2 - BTDT

I found out I was pregnant with ds when dd was 8 months. I immediately had the feeling you had but by that night, I was really excited. ds was born when dd was 16 months and he is now three months old. DD is in LOVE with him. she hugs him nonstop, wants to try amd help as much as she can. when she wakes up in the morning she immediately looks for her "babe" and says goodnight to him everynight. there have been no jealousy issues at all. it's pretty amazing. I just said to my mom that beinaom is so amazing, especially when you see your kids interact. good luck and feel well. it will all be fine!

Currently pg with #2 (unplanned). I felt the same as you at first about DS getting all of our attention. But then I thought 2 years, 1 month is a good age gap. My brother and I are 5 years apart and I think that's somewhat the reason why we aren't super close. It was meant to be and I'm sure your DC will love having a sibling!

Eta: congrats!

Re: Baby #2 - BTDT

I found out I was pregnant with #2 when #1 was only 4 months. Of course totally unexpected & unplanned since DS#1 was an IVF baby. I.cried on & off for days bc I was thrilled but so scared how my oldest would react & how I would handle 2 so close. Things got extremely crazy when #2 decided to come 8 weeks early & now my boys are only 10.5 months apart. My oldest didn't show jealousy until the younger was around 1. At 3.5 & 2.5, they are best friends & its a joy that they basically grew up & out of stages together. I still have moments of guilt bc my oldest lost that one on one time with us at an early age plus bringing home a preemie made it harder to give him the same time but he really just went with the flow.

Congrats! I got pregnant with number 2 when my son was 9 mths, it was totally unplanned since I had fertility for my first. I felt the sane way at first but now now they are 22 mths and 5 mths and it is great!! Enjoy every minute!!!

I totally agree! I gave my first as much attention as I could when DS #2 got home. My older DS actually has kind of a difficult personality, but has always been good with his brother. Now they play together and its really cute. Everything will be fine :)
Congratulations!!

I agree. DS & DD are 3 years apart but as soon I as I got home from the hospital I just sat with DS and played with him. I mean realisticly the baby does not need as much attention the first few months they sleep and eat but your older child will.

Re: Baby #2 - BTDT

I felt the same way when I found out I was pg with DD2- I cried about it off and on for a few weeks.

I had nothing to worry about!! DD1 still gets PLENTY of attention and so does DD2.

I found out I was pg with #3 right after DD2 turned 1 and I started freaking out about DD2 getting middle child syndrome and feeling neglected.

Hopefully these worries will also be unfounded.

Congratulations! Chat Icon
