I am not, but I do plan on having DS on a reading and math schedule in addition to summer camp. How has your DC done in school this year? I already told DS that he has to do work over the summer to keep his skills sharp. I get those prep books from Costco and make my kids do them for about 5-15 minutes.

DD is in k and has struggled so we started doing about 1 hour of work with her every day to help her with reading and spelling. We hired her old babysitter to come by and work with her 2 days a week-she does the same exercises we do it's just a nice break for DD to work with someone else. We already spoke with the tutor about a schedule for the summer to make sure DD does slide backwards since she has made so much progress

Last summer I did reading and math with both kids every day. The school sent home a summer packet between K and 1st, so I duplicated that with my son going from Prek to K.
I plan on doing the same thing this year. The district's reading/math program + my own additional stuff.

P- I don't think there is a need for tutoring unless she is far behind. Kids need a break during the summer to help them recharge their batteries! I agree with buying one of those summer bridge books.

I don't think she is behind but she is very average. Her reading and spelling is great. Her math not so much. Seems inconsistent at times. I don't know if I would say it's much different then any other child. I just don't want her behind in the fall.

I would work on basic addition/subtraction, counting with fingers. For example, 8 +8, what I taught my son, is that he does not have to start with 1, start with 8 and then count up with your fingers to get the correct answer.
Can she identify her numbers? I would work on number recognition. Have her read digital clocks. Play number games, I have 6 dolls, you have 3. How many more dolls do I have? I try to do things like that while cooking dinner. I have my kids help make dinner - and when we use the measuring cup I point out fractions.

I am a teacher and our district uses Pearson. This is our first year using it and it's definitely more complex than our previous program. Do what you feel is best for your DD.
