So what are the going rates for newborn pics?
I have no clue how much these "should" cost? I am sure there is a wide range, so does anyone mind sharing quotes?

There is a HUGE range. The person we are using is $275 for the shoot and the high res files. Some are over $500 just for the shoot and then you need to buy $500 in prints or files.

it will vary someone starting out might charge $150-$250 range and then it climbs as the experience level increases (or if in their own studio/traveling to you, etc.)

Re: So what are the going rates for newborn pics?
It can range from $250 for someone who is just starting out up to $2000 for some of the highly sought after photogs with phenominal work. There is someone for every budget.
Keep in mind that "just the high res files" will likely cost more if you are going to a reputable experienced photographer (who has done proper business cost analysis). Giving the files is like giving away the farm. This cuts off future sales for them since you wont be going to them for prints so they charge accordlingly for those files.
Go with the work you like best and fits your budget. It's a once in a lifetime thing and you get what you pay for. You will see a big difference in cost and quality between photographers. :)

Every photographer will offer something different. Some you pay a session fee then choose a collection which can be digital files or prints or both. Some just sell a CD with session fee included, some include prints with the CD, etc. It varries widely.
The best bet is to look around at different photogs, contact the ones you like for pricing and go with whichever one you like best and fits in with what you want and your budget.

Who are you using for 275$ and $300? I can't find anyone under 500$ and that's out of my price range! Thanks

Re: So what are the going rates for newborn pics?
We paid $500 for the files. I still have to order the prints but I'll do that on my own through mpix or some other site.

Re: So what are the going rates for newborn pics?
Ours is 300 for the shoot and then we have a 400 minimum photo cost. Basically, after the shoot we have to guarantee that we will purchase at least 400 dollars worth of pictures. If we choose not to buy pictures and take the CD with high res files, that has its own cost which I believe she said was 475.
HTH!!! Good luck.
