Breech babies and hip dysplasia
I found out my baby is breech and I've been reading that hip dysplasia is common in breech babies. Now, I'm worried. Has anyone had a breech? If so, did everything work out okay? TIA

Breech babies and hip dysplasia
My DS was breech (from 28 weeks until he was delivered at 39 weeks). At our last dr. appt the dr. was concerned that he might have hip dysplasia so we went to a pediatric orthopedist and he's perfectly fine!

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
Both of my kids were breech. At 6 weeks they each had an ultrasound of their hips. They are both fine.

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
I think it's a possiblity but not that common. So many babies are breach. I had one head down and one frank breach and the ped checks their hips (being twins and one breach) and they are fine.

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
My daughter was breech my whole pregnancy ~ I had to have a c-section. At 6 weeks she had to have a sono/ultrasound to check. My ped recommended double diapering her until after the sono ~ sometimes that helps out the hips. It did she was fine and we went back to one diaper and she is fine!

DS was breech and his hips were fine!
When a baby is breech you have to be aware of possible hip dysplasia, but it's also very possible your baby will be just fine! How far along are you? It's also possible your baby will still turn.

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
My son was breech (frank) and after he was born we took him for a sonogram just to be safe and his hips turned out fine. At all of his doctor appointments in the beginning our doctor would also take his legs and kindof roll them around to make sure everything felt fine. He never had any issues!

Same here. I don't know how long he was breech as I saw him at 20 weeks and then not again until 39 weeks when they suddenly told me he was breech. I think he was probably that way most of the time. I kept thinking I was feeling his head up high pushing out, but the doctors kept telling me no, it was probably his feet - "they can kick pretty hard"

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
Great! Something else for me to worry about! LO has been breech the entire pregnancy, hasn't moved once! I'm pretty sure he will be born in the next couple weeks via c-section as he is not willing to turn. Hoping this is not an issue for him!

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
DD was breech the whole time until she flipped 2 weeks before she was born.. and was checked for hip dysplasia and she was fine.
Please don't stress about it.. believe me.. there are tons of other things to stress out. You baby will be fine

Breech babies and hip dysplasia
DD was never breech but she did have hip dysplasia. For her it was more likely hereditary. I wouldn't stress about it. There's probably a more than likely chance he won't have it but even if he does it's not that bad. Not worth stressing over IMO, it was a few months of treatment and never bothered DD at all.

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
AJ was always breech.. (that-a girl!) and born C/S a lil early.
She was always checked but always 100% fine. I refused to read up into anything when I was preggo. Especially since I was very happy with a C/S. Even here C/S are looked down on as a negative on the preggo board. But the thing is.. it was much better for my baby to be born healthy than born 'naturally'.
It was just a bonus that i didn't have to push a watermelon out of a lemon ! I wanted NOTHING to do with childbirth and could not have been happier than to find out I was getting a C/S.
My lil girls hips were and are FINE! No worries. Stop reading!

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
My DD was breech for I don't know how long (my doc never said a word and I didn't ask - shame on me) and we had no issues.
Went for a hip sono around 6 weeks and everything was normal.

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
DD was breech my ENTIRE pregnancy. Also, I had low fluids AND she wasn't growing normally (small for gestational age). I was so concerned and needed a nearly c-section when my fluids were scary low. My ped moved her hips at the first few appointments and never recommended a sono or anything. She is fine and no dysplasia. Now she's a petite but typical crazy 2 year old who runs and jumps everywhere. My son who was NEVER breech during pregnancy needed PT for various other issues. LOL

Re: Breech babies and hip dysplasia
OK, I will be the 1 that will say that "Yes, my baby was breech and had hip dysplasia"....although I am not entirely sure if that's what caused it. I think it is more the shape of my uterus. My younger DD had hip dysplasia also and was head down from 20 weeks on!
This being said - should your baby have hip dysplasia, please FM me....I am an expert now having 2 kids with it! And while it sounds awful, it is so easily fixable!
