What age do you let your kids play in the street

for example, ride bikes, scooters, or play basketball. I don't mean cross the street, I mean play in the middle of it.

Mine is 5 and I have let her for a while, but I am always outside with here she is never outside with a grown up.

Dd was 5 when she started too, but only bc the neighbor kids are older and always watch out for her..still don't like leaving the front window but it made it easier to let her go play

In our old, quiet neighborhood-7. Now, I wouldn't even let my 10 year old. People speed down our street and don't slow down for anything.

8 and 9 years old, and only when an adult is standing right there keeping an eye out.

We live on a cul-de-sac and my kids play outside but I am there with them. My kids are 5 and 3. For the first time this week I let DS have a drop off play date and they were riding bikes on the street below mine with another adult there.

The kids around the corner from me are in middle school & when they play in the street, they do not even get out of the way when a car is coming. I'm well aware of where they play so I go slowly but some people don't know to expect them to be there or just don't drive carefully. We did it when I was a kid but that doesn't make it a good thing to do. There are other "cliques" of kids in my area who are that age and they have never played in the street & will probably grow up without doing that. We did it when I was a kid & the memories are great but that doesn't mean it was safe.

Well my son is nine and I don't want him in the street unsupervised riding bikes and scooters. But I am surprised how many people would allow it, so I guess his friend's mom is not completely nuts. LOL

Glad to know. Still not doing it. Its scary to watch them out there.

My sons are 9 & 11 (almost 10 and 12). We live on a dead end block and this is the FIRST year I have let them go outside to play basketball on the street without me being right there. I just don't trust cars to do the right thing.
