Daycare locations in Nassau
I posted this on the parenting board but no one ever answers me there! lol
The plan is for my mom to watch the baby full-time once DH and I go back to work. However, I want to have backup options in case my mom gets sick or for whatever reason isn't able to take care of the baby for a period of time. A day here and there isn't a big deal because DH and/or I can work from home but it can't be a reg. thing.
I'm looking for anything around the Franklin Square, Malverne, RVC, Valley Stream, Lynbrook area. I'll even go into W. Hempstead and Floral Park if necessary.
Also, I wouldn't look by my job (In the Bx by Yankee Stadium ish), but what are people's thoughts on having the daycare option near DH's job (melville/farmingdale area). Pro's or Cons of this?

I have a really great day care in Meliville, my son is there 3 days a week and since i work in Melville it works out very nicely. I can'y say enough great things about them, they are a pre-school too and my son has learned so much from being there...he has so much fun too! They have actually have a back-up program, so if your mom last minute couldn't watch your baby, you can call them and I believe it's $90/day. It's called "Calling All Kids, Again".

There's one in a temple right by Lynbrook train station that I can not remember the name of but I have heard good things and will ask DH what it's called. He won't remember but he drives by there and can look for me. I know it's in a temple but definitely not only for Jews!

My DS goes to daycer in Farmingdale. The issue you are going to have is there aren't many drop in daycares and most regualr daycares have waiting lists.
So if soemthing were to happen and your mom couldn't watch your baby then you might not be able to find a place without makign a regular commitment.
If you want recs in the Farmingdale area I looked at them all. Some wated Full time and soem were ok with part time.

Re: Daycare locations in Nassau
when we started daycare ds was about 3 months and I was very grateful that it was right by my job. The first month or so, I got a lot of calls because of him getting sick- he had to work up an immunity. But nonetheless, it was amazing that I could run next door and check on him and get to him quickly if he was sick.
drawbacks are if you are working from home or ill yourself and you still want to drop the baby at daycare, you have to drive out that way to do it.
eta- I also think you are going to have trouble getting a walk-in place. The rules for infants are stricter and most will only accept them full time. You would be better off trying to find on an call babysitter (sahm) or something like that

DS goes to daycare in Bethpage even though we live in Westbury. (Though we're moving to Bethpage soon and will be right by the daycare ourselves.) However the daycare is right near my mom's work and MIL's house. Even though MIL works, she is the one that's able to pick DS up every afternoon which is super helpful being that the daycare is only open until 5:00 p.m. DH and I don't get home until well after 6.
The hardest time for me was definitely the 1st year he was there because they do get sick a lot (especially around 5-10 months -- he started at about 3 months). We all took turns getting him when they called.
