Trail Runs

Does anyone do any off road trail running?

I used to do this all the time when I lived OOS, just wondering if anyone knows any good trails in South Shore Suffolk to run. TIA!

Re: Trail Runs

I do runs on a bridle path in Central Park. Its been ran on a lot but its still dirt. Definitely different.

I have no advice on locations in Suffolk but its definitely a nice change of pace. Its good for your body too (less impact and you end up going slower from what i hear).

If you're near Babylon, try the path that goes to Belmont Park. It starts near the Babylon Grade School near the tennis courts. I believe it's about 5 miles round trip. If you add a loop around the park, it could be close to 6. There's actually a 10k race in that trail in August.

Really slower? Why is that? All I've been doing have been trail runs, because it's convenient, & very enjoyable scenery too.

You are more likely to go slower if the terrain is uneven or if there are a lot of tree roots.

There is a town park 1/2 a mile from my house with a 5K course so I run there over the summer and do a 2 loops. It is nice because it is shady and much cooler!

Re: Trail Runs

My favorite place is Avalon in Stony Brook

I park where the yellow and green trail meet, go up the yellow trail for a full circuit and when I get to the car, I cut across the green trail and go up the opposite way to make it 3.2 miles.

There are long stretches of semi-flat ground but it's definitely hilly and twisty. Keeps it interesting. Running through the meadow you should do carefully where the grass is clumpy, don't want to twist an ankle.

Makes sense. Mine is a 7mile loop around a lake, some small hills. Very scenic & enjoyable, safe, & partly shady.
