I am looking for a specific fish tank and I can't find it!!
I need a new fish tank for our betta fish. I want something rectangular or square, not round, and not larger than 3 gallons. i also don't want a filter. I can't seem to find anything like that. Whatever suites me size wise comes with a filter and/or all kids of other shenanigans.
Anyone has any tips on where to look?

Not sure where you are but in suffolk.. Pet warehouse and BTJ's jungle (both on sunrise highway) have small tanks. Pet warehouse has square and rectangle simple glass tanks and maybe one with a hood, BTJs are more self contained tanks. I didn't check the gallons. Also try looking around online. Not sure what you want to spend, they can get up their in price if you want something really modern.
Another thing you can do is find any other glass vessel at like home goods or the craft store and do a small suction cup filter that sits inside the vessel.

Traysee, thank you for the ideas! I am in Queens, but I will check the stores similar ot the ones you have lsited. Would you know what kidn of sucktion filter is good? I am kind of scared of the filters all together. I was going to get one tank but then it turned out that the filter killed some fish, as per reviewd on teh Amazon. I am also concerned that it might be noisy because the aquarium is in my kids room.

Suction filters are underwater inside the tank. So what you will hear is the humming of the air pump and some bubbling of the air passing thru the filter and breaking the surface of the water. As for the air pump, they sometimes come as a set and sometimes you buy them separately so you can pick out the quietest pump they make. Sometimes they vibrate onto a wall or something and that will make louder noise so you need to move it away from the wall.
As for which to use, it's been a long time since I used a cartridge filter. So I would go with what the pet shop recommends. Filters are VERY easy to use. There are several types but for the most part they break down into... Biological filtration (like undergravel filters which use good bacteria to break down waste in the tank, essentially setting up a balanced ecosystem within the tank) and manual filtration (passing water over a sponge and carbon. Either you put a layer of carbon and some sort of sponge on top of the carbon inside a box filter or thru a cartridge/insert) The cartridge type is what you would use for a bowl unless you buy a kit which is usually the tank, a top w/ or without a light and a filter.
Even manual filtration filters do hold good bacteria in them. The key to keeping it on the filter is not rinsing it in chlorinated tap water, which will kill the good bacteria. Also not overfeeding the fish which will overload the ecosystem.
I did a quick search on Amazon and came up with these cute tank/filtered bowls:

Oh duh! I just re-read your original post. You DON'T want a filter. LOL ok, that's easy enough... You just need to pick out whatever vessel you want and if it comes with a filter don't use it. :O)
The first link I put above could work well for your needs and it's cheap :O)
